Hey! I was there for...ummm...1963...1969....wait. I know the answer to this one...

6 years!

So, okay, I lived in Phoenix for another 7 years after that, and we both like our food spicy, so...

Ummm...what was your point, again?

I think my point is that we develop our tastes when we're young, and I may be too old to get my digestive system to agree that it wants spicy food. ;)

What great news! Remember the pictures from the other night, Ms. Behavin and Long Cut out takin' pot shots at clay pigeons?

I believe their host was in a wheelchair...I wonder if St. Louis is going to include Skeet or Trap in their Veterans Wheelchair Games?

Oh, ok! Yep, I see what you mean...and why you said they may be illegal immigrant squirrels and not mind the jalapeno pepper!

Mrs. HJ used to sit in the stairwell with a friend while she carried our youngest; they would eat a full bag of tortilla chips and a pint of salsa while chatting the day away.

He now has a cast iron stomach!

More info:

What: A multi-event sports and rehabilitation program for military service veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition due to spinal cord injuries, amputations, or certain neurological problems. Attracting more than 500 athletes each year, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world.

Where: Events will take place at different venues in St. Louis, Missouri (America’s Center, Edward Jones Dome, Forest Park, Saint Louis Zoo, and other area venues.)

When: June 15-19, 2004

Why: The sponsors of this event are committed to improving the quality of life of veterans with disabilities and fostering better health through sports competition. While past Games have produced a number of national and world-class champions, the Games also provide opportunities for newly disabled veterans to gain sports skills and be exposed to other wheelchair athletes. Usually, one quarter of the competitors have never participated in any type of organized wheelchair sports competition.

Sponsors:U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), with financial assistance from corporate, civic, and veterans service organizations.

Hosts: The St. Louis VA Medical Center Paralyzed Veterans of America Gateway Chapter

Events: Competitive events include swimming, table tennis, weightlifting, archery, air guns, basketball, softball, quad rugby, bowling, handcycling, wheelchair slalom, power soccer, a wheelchair rally, 9-ball, handcycling, track and field. Track events include 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 5000 meter races, plus a special 220-meter race for power wheelchairs. Field events include club throw, shot put, discus, and javelin. Athletes compete in all events against others with similar athletic ability, competitive experience or age. Trap shooting is an exhibition event this year.

Admission: Free. The public is most welcome.

Information:Bruce Nolan, St. Louis VA Medical Center (314) 894-6602

Hello Fawnn . . . your solution is as good as anything I could come up, with and sounds as tho' it would work. I live out in the country and there are tons of squirrels here, but luckily they do not bother my potted plants, apparently there's enough other stuff around here to satisfy them. Thank goodness!
