She seems to think the radiation won't be a big deal. She'll take a bit of break when the missus is in Slovakia. Mom is going to come here and spend time with Luke. (I'll be home at night).
I think with the "wishes" it's just the matter that they still believe that his Mom "did what she had to do." And, in believing that, they haven't come to grips with the fact that she took the coward's way out.
They'll think of it in the only way that can bring them any sense of it they can stand to live with. Never been in shoes like those, so I can't say anyone ~should~ look at it. There is guilt and doubt and regret surrounding how we last saw anyone who dies, let alone losing them like that.
People I know who went through radiation found it to be not bad, that it didn't make them sick. I hope and pray your mom's treatment is both successful and bearable to take.
