Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

We laugh about the fact that we had $12.00 in the bank and were hob-nobbing with all those rich folk.

I knew you and I were kindred spirits - even if we are elf and dwarf.

I don't think those forums are still going on, but that was a pretty cool thing. Wasn't William F. Buckley one of those?

That moment of getting to meet, shake hands and talk to Colin Powell will stick with me for many years. Very impressive, that guy.

I was just talking to the beertender here at da waterin' hole, and she said she used to work in a tux shop in Reno, when Colin Powell came in one day needing a tux. (dunno when). She said "he was just the nicest guy ever".

Hi Rutheee! :-)

I been sniffin' fer the better part of the day too. There's just something about military honors that reaches pretty deep. The precision, and the history, and the tradition... it just gets to me.

For me today it was the totally of the caisson, the riderless horse, and then-- nudge over the edge-- the flyby of the 21 F-15's. All I could think about was that I was pretty damn sure that there wasn't a dry eye in any one of those cockpits.

Holy Cow! The road my house is on in Mosheim has a road closure over a creek crossing! Even when we had the floods that closed Highway 6 in 1990 that place didn't go under water!

I'm in Chapter 12 and I think I just figured out the secret (spoiler concealed in invisible ink):

Black is innocent and the real culprit is Lupin, who also knew Harry's father. . .

Am I close?

Agreed. The riderless horse was so restless, I kept thinking...even the horse can't stand that Reagan's gone! He's gonna bolt at any moment!

I have to say how much I admire and respect everyone who stood out there, but especially our military and police, who faced the heat to pay their respects and honor our dear Dutch.

And don't get me started on the fly-by. *weeping*

Just think how hard it must be to fly a plane when all the gauges are blurry.

Floods. All over the place east and south of here. I am looking for a route to get home so I can see Myranda for her birthday. I posted about it earlier, a friend is giving me gas money to get down to see her - otherwise it will probably be months before I can see her again. *sigh*

I am gonna have to take a long route around flooded roads.

Yep... several roads here in Austin have flooded... it's been raining steadily (and occasionally heavily) since about 2:00 this afternoon, which is rare here!

Please be careful on those flooded streets, sis. It's an aggravation to take the long way, but better late than never!

I think I better go ahead and drive tomorrow. At least I can get *close* to Temple. I don't know enough of the backroads to go around the flood on my usual route. If I can just get to Grama's tomorrow, I know enough back roads to get anywhere I wanna go from there.

Well, there's not flooded streets that I know of. It's water over the road at bridges over creeks and rivers. I know better than chance those!

I've checked state road closures thoroughly just now. I will do it again before I leave. I was fed up enough with the events of the day that I was thinking of going ahead and driving tonight - but I ain't gonna try that now. Just no need to do that - it's still raining in a lot of the area I need to drive through.

Heck. If I could just get 2/3 of the way to Grama's.

From Stephenville (Erath county) south I have ridden all those highways, country roads, ranch roads and farm roads enough on my bike that I could make the last 70 miles into Bosque county without a problem.

Problem is Jack and Palo Pinto counties. And Johnson county if I try to route myself through Ft. Worth. Johnson county is BAD! But, I know that area almost as well as Bosque county too.
