Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's hard to imagine that there could be a beautiful island just 50 miles offshore, just the other side of the Gulf Stream from the major metropolis of Miami, that is still unspoiled, but it's true.

There is not a major hotel on the island or resort or anything, no Motel 6, no Holiday Inn, just some small native owned hotels, plus the Big Game Club, and now some condos on the South Island that one can rent.

Well, my friend called. He isn't on his way here after all. He got a call and has to work this afternoon so we spent 2 hours on the phone instead.

That is why I think I'd love it there! A nice place to just hang out for a few days it sounds like to me.

Goody...we may be getting hail. Probably not...but there's a possibility.

If my 'maters get pounded, the sky better watch out, 'cause I'm coming after it. Grrrr!

They're saying nickel sized hail and strong winds.

Yes! I liked it. But, *please* ask Rose to leave her demon-creatures-from-hell at home! :-)

Kewl...we all just finished watching the beginning of the front come through. LOTS of wind and water, and some tree branches torn down and the power flickered, but we didn't get any hail. I'm half happy and half disappointed... ;-)

Sounds like a nice storm viewing Rosie. You know how I like watching those. Our weather today is kinda boring. It's overcast but very comfortable.

Got some flash flood warnings here... no thunderstorms, just lots of rain.

They've had over 8 inches of cumulative rain in 3 counties adjacent to us this week so they're flash flooding for the last 2 nights. We've only had about an inch of rain all week. It's all going east and south of us.

I've got some cool news, if I can get it all worked out right. Gonna be a bit tricksey.

Last month when I visited, Myranda and I had talked about her birthday this Saturday. Since my budget at present is not allowing me the gas money to make trips back home and her birthday is only days before I leave for Seattle, Myranda and I had decided that *we* would celebrate her birthday when I came back from Wedding Moot.

However, she has made the decision yesterday to go ahead and move to her dad's house, just outside San Antonio. She will be moving while I am at Wedding Moot. That means that there isn't really any way that I could go visit her when I get back. It would probably be 2 or 3 months before we could meet somewhere to spend any time together.

But, a dear friend has just offered this morning to provide the funds for me so I can go see her this weekend!

Of course, this means I gotta get busy and be packed for 2 trips and I have to see about meeting with one student tomorrow morning - hopefully about 8 AM and then - hopefully everything else will work out right - and I can spend time with Myranda! If nobody down there botches up the plan - I haven't talked to Myranda about this latest thing either.

But those Fours have been documented to crack and remove drywall from the walls of dorm rooms. Honest. We're talking real structural damage. It was a thing to behold. There's a really funky thing that happens when a standing wave occurs in a square room... and the walls start to breathe in and out... and BAM! Stuff breaks.

Dunno about speakers, but one windstorm came through downtown Detroit that busted out big windows. I was in an inner office of the Ren Cen, and noticed they were clearing people out of offices with windows. I ducked into one empty office, and heard this "wubba-wubba-wubba" sound. Then I noticed the reflection of the room lights in the 10x10 foot windows. The windows had an excursion of about two inches in both directions. A little voice inside me said, "neat subwoofers, but I don't want to be around when they let loose".

I beat a hasty retreat, and found out later that the windows did let go, but blew out, rather than in, the building. By then, they had cleared all pedestrian traffic around the base of the building.

Still getting caught up here, but there's a warning of one-inch hail to the south of us, and a tornado warning to the west. And I head off for the afternoon shift shortly.

Hope that works out for ya! Sounds like it could be fun!

Saturday is Bilbo's birthday, too. Guess I better get a move on and figure out SOME sort of present...

Flooding is scary! I'd rather have hail...at least that doesn't come inside sturdy buildings!

It's thundering again...but the power isn't flashing anymore.

The temperature dropped like a stone...amazing how fast that happens. Went from high mid-eighties to high sixties.

Good morning, er, afternoon!!

It has been such a busy day that I am already exhausted and got a headache. But I've got lots done and still have to pick up Matthew from choir camp at 5pm.

My car is still in the shop. I'm still driving my dad's great big diesel pick-up...it's a lot of fun...but a bit nerve-wracking! It's huge.
