Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It doesn't sound cold at all, Rosie.

Although the man is gone now, his legacy of hope will live on through these speeches and actions.

It's about time the country had a refresher course in Reagan optimism!

Of course the crowds will be terrible, but I imagine that it will be a crowd of good people, so that makes it better.

If I lived where you live, I'd be there if I could! And if you do go, you'd be our Hobbit Hole ambassador. (((Corin)))

I was so little when he was president that I really didn't pay much attention...

I wasn't really politically conscious until the last two years of Reagan's Presidency, so I missed a lot, too. I also appreciate hearing his old speeches again--makes me wish I had paid more attention earlier.

It's lovely in its simplicity, IMHO. But I know you can always dress it up a bit. :-)

I agree with you on that feeling when Gandalf fell. It's that disbelief that someone so large in life could actually *die* that stuns us every time, no matter how "prepared" we are.

Exactly--I knew it was coming, but when it hits, it still hits.

You are a good poet :) Please post more stuff!

Ruthy is quite the poet.

Yes, she is! :)

For a while I've been wanting to read that book of his speeches that was recently published. Now I really want to read it!

Didn't know about your grandmother. Or if I'd heard, it didn't register. I am so sorry. Prayers are there for you all.

I'm sad, but strangely excited to know that Reagan (who is so deserving of joy) has reclaimed all memories of the great life he led and now is in the company of Our Lord.

Once again, your words have captured things perfectly Ruthy. (((Ruthy)))

I'm contemplating going to DC.

Ya know, if one of ya'll went, it would be kind of nice to think of you also standing in for me. If you wouldn't mind. Just be there for some of us who can't?

Scrabble now, is it? My, my, my...WeddingMoot is indeed upon us! *wink*

Seriously, I hope there's time during my stay to play a boardgame or two! Especially if we can play something like Taboo or Clue. I love those games.

Admittedly, I am a boardgame junkie, but my kids have destroyed my collection. :-(

My ex-boss bought me a Reagan biography for Christmas one year (it was on my wish list). I think now would be a good time for a re-read.

Thanks, sis. I feel like Moses sometimes, with the way I can stumble over words when I speak or misspeak (which is often the case *smile*).

I give all credit to God when words I express come together nicely.

I think that anyone that goes from the Hobbit Hole should consider themselves as Hobbit Hole Representatives!

I'm back! Just got a chance to log back on...Steve went to watch a hockey game or somethin'...

"Thanks, Fedora. You're a sweetheart."

Aw, shucks :)

While we're on the subject of poetry, here's one of my recent ones which a friend set to guitar. It was kinda inspired by the scene in RotK where Frodo uses the Phial of Galadriel to fight Shelob:

“When All Other Lights Have Gone Out”

© 2003 by Fedora

When all other lights have gone out of the sky
And alone in the darkness you stand
With the shadows surrounding your heart on all sides
Let this light be a star in your hand

When your hopes have faded and your dreams gone dim
And you face the night all alone
May this star shine down on your heart
May this beacon guide you home

Let this be your light in the darkness
Let this be your morning star
Lift your eyes and look to the east
Let a new day dawn in your heart

When you walk through the valley of death
And you face your foes all alone
May this flame be a sword in your hand
May this shield guard the fire of your hope

Let this be your sword in the shadows
Let this be your shield in the night
Let this be your arrow of hope
Let this be your armor of light

When all other friends have abandoned your side
And you carry your cross all alone
May you know you have not been foresaken
May you know you do not stand alone

Let me be your light in the darkness
Let me stand by your side as your friend
Let me hold your hand as we walk through the night
Let us fight side by side ‘til the end.

Today they are coming off very well.

I gotta get these kids ready for bed now. (gosh now I sound like you!) Their bedtime is 9 - but I'm lettin' 'em stay up till 10 with me. :-)

I gotta do somethin' to make 'em think I'm okay! ;-)

Was it a good bio? I need to find a good pro-Reagan bio.
