Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...That none have seen but we alone.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Suzi, I probably wouldn't be much help to you. Architecture is the area of drafting that I know least about. Now, the mechanical and electrical parts of you plans, those I could whip out in short order.

As I'm watching Fox News, I'm hearing so many amazing anecdotes about President Reagan--about his genuineness, about his disarming one-liners, about his kindness towards even his enemies. What really impresses me is how many people have such fond memories of him. Above and beyond his political achievements, he was such a great person.

I guess part of my grief is the fact that my Mama has Alzheimers, too.

I thought of your mama too when I heard about this. She and your family have lots of prayers.

It's kinda spooky this month. I can remember every day of this month last year. Whether I was here teaching school or at either of the hospitals with Grama. I am not consciously doing that. It's just that whenever I hear the date, look at a calendar or put the date on a check I just instantly think of where I was last year.

My grandmother has Alzheimers...and we are bit concerned that my mom may develope it. No sign of it yet, but she had an episode not too long ago that we are hoping is linked to the medication she was taking (Lipitor) rather than onset of Alzheimers.

I wish there were words that could convey what Reagan meant to me as a teenager.

I wish I had been more knowledgeable in the 80s.

Here's to you, Mr. President.

*sad smile* That is one of my favorite pictures.

(((WN)))

I couldn't think of what to say, so I typed my feelings.

I'm sad, but strangely excited to know that Reagan (who is so deserving of joy) has reclaimed all memories of the great life he led and now is in the company of Our Lord.

Now, not only can Dutch recall all he did, but he is now in a place where he knows how *much* he meant to so many. "To die is gain", indeed...

For some reason as I was thinking about it, it reminded me of how I felt when Gandalf fell in the first movie, which made me think of that. BTW did you write the poem in 1,866? If so I'm impressed.

I wish I had been more knowledgeable in the 80s.

I was so little when he was president that I really didn't pay much attention...but I wish I'd been more politically aware when I was little so I could remember more. I suppose that's the one good thing to come of this - a lot of his speeches and actions are being broadcast again, and those of us who don't remember them can experience them.

That sounds so cold...but I don't mean it that way.

No, when his body is in the Rotunda. I know the crowds will be horrible. But I'm considering it.

I agree with you on that feeling when Gandalf fell. It's that disbelief that someone so large in life could actually *die* that stuns us every time, no matter how "prepared" we are.

Oh, and yes, I did write that poem. I do that from time to time. Ask Hair or Ecurbh about my last one. *grin*

Thanks, I just whipped it together as soon as I heard. Got a few great pics from other threads, so I may rework it a bit.

If I have time.

Time? What time do you think we have?
