You could try it.
How appropriate, it just started raining here. ~sob~ I think I'm gonna go for a walk out in the woods and cry.
I feel so terrible- he was the embodiment of the American Spirit.
I think its time for a new tagline...
I think that embodiment of the American Spirit is what will be renewed now. He's had a long rough time of it lately... where all conversations were about his illness... Now free of the illness, we are seeing the man again in many images and memories for the week(s) to come.
A sad day...but a peaceful one. What a full life this man lived until relatively the last few years...
That is the way I am looking at it too.
Here too. Seems to be all over. Someone else commented, "the angels are even crying".
We are probably all here now (on the conservative movement's website) because of him and what he did. No one greater walked the earth in our day.
I would too, but a chilling thought came over me: will the klintons barge in for the funeral? They're ghoulish enough at RAT funerals, but they'd go out of their way to somehow sully our last goodbye for Ron. There is nothing that is too low for that pair.
*snif*
I just heard. I'll be back later.
I just heard too and came to check the news. :-(
Watching his farewell address on CSPAN right now. ~sniff~
I got here as soon as I could...Steve and I were fixing a snack when it came on. My first thought was...I gotta get on Free Republic...but I couldn't. Him's mowin' now... :-)
I was just a kid in the 1980s, so the nuances of politics were lost on me. But I remember loving to see the President on TV. My childhood was rather sheltered from the craziness of the world, but I remember a nuclear 'crisis' of some sort. It was all over TV and radio. I remember college kids being interviewed about the cyanide capsules they were buying and keeping handy. What kind of thing was nuclear war that people would rather kill themselves than live through it? A cousin who visited us talked about heading to the hills and said we should do the same since we had 19 missile silos between us and Tucson. It scared me.
But then President Reagan would come on TV and everything seemed to be ok. His voice was a comfort. It was strong, in charge.
People can debate his policies till the cows come home, but nothing will tarnish my childhood memories- as naive as they may be.
My prayers for the family for their strength during this time. And may God bless Pres. Reagan.
I don't have CSPAN. But I hope somebody here besides me is crying.
The kids and I discussed it. They are all too young to remember him but we are about to watch Sante Fe Trail in memory. :-(
Well, I don't really feel free to be here with the kids here. I am trying to be an entertaining hostess for them. Show them a good time away from home you know. But, this has upset me and that bothered them. They are educated in Christian school and well-mannered children. They were concerned cause I had tears.
