I can relate to that :) I saw a moray eel at the Shedd Aquarium when I was 5, which gave me nightmares for years after. I have a recurring nightmare about being in the water with Great Whites, too. I love sharks and am fascinated with them, but would be quite cautious about getting in the water where one might be around--much more cautious than I see people being in these documentaries that claim "the chances of being bitten by a shark are much less than being struck by lightning" (yeah, but the odds go up if you walk outside in a storm and stand near a metal pole, LOL!). I've seen documentaries where they took aerial photographs of beaches that were supposed protected by shark nets, and the photos showed sharks everywhere just a few hundred yards out, even inside the netline in some cases. Man is not naturally meant to be in the ocean, LOL! I still love the water, though. Not as worried about jellyfish or man o'wars or stingrays as you can predict their whereabouts a bit better and they're less deadly, just painful. Barracuda can take a piece out of you if they attack but generally leave you alone if you don't attract them by wearing shiny stuff, etc. That's one nice thing about Lake Michigan: it's colder and not as clear as the ocean, but not many dangerous animals to worry about. There have been a few shark attacks in the Great Lakes but only a handful, so I don't worry--much :) But every so often when I'm way out in the water, that theme music from Jaws starts playing in my head. . . :)

*laughing* I hear that Jaws theme everytime I look at the ocean. I can almost picture them sitting on the ocean floor, looking up at me, with a knife and fork clenched in their fins and bibs around their necks!

got that a few times when I was on night dives... I got about 150 hours of night divin' off'n Okinawa, PI, and Gitmo... sometimes if'n there was a full moon, we didn't carry lights... just a penlight in case of emergencies...
