Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Poor Rosie.... she's become the subject of an intervention. Maybe your dad or your brothers came and did it?

The fact that it is 'not working now' means 'not working' is working! ;~D

Exactly!--I think--if I can figure out what you just said. . . :)

I'm probably going to see Van Helsing tonight. Anyone else seen it?--thumbs up or down?

Nope, I know them better than that. It wouldn't occur to them in a million years.

Ugh...I think it's the family next door, but I hate to go over and ask, but it's not as if I can pretend I don't notice anything's different, either.

Pippin is really quite a character :) Didn't realize it until my last reread, but he's got so many aspects to his personality, and he really develops over the course of the story.

When I first read LOTR, it was a toss-up between Pippin and Frodo...I was emotionally involved with Frodo's story until he tried to leave the Company at Rauros...I got rather mad at him and upset...so when the story picked up again in TTT with Pippin's point of view, the separation became complete. I love Frodo deeply as a character, but Pippin gets my heart thumping...plus he has a mouth on him, which for a teenager, was pretty attractive. Sassin' a wizard! Correcting a Steward! Pulling a face on a child younger than him (big brother games)! I gotta tell ya, its a pity he didnt have a quest of his own to fill.

Pity? Yes it was pity--pity and mercy. . .Whoops, wrong LotR quote! :) Seriously, now that you mention it, Pippin really does define the reader's viewpoint in much of RotK, doesn't he? My favorite part was the part you allude to where he told the little kid he was really a big fearsome wrestler back in his own country--"I am a halfling: hard, bold, and wicked!" :)

LOL I really wish they had found a way to put that in there...Boyd would have really made it comic. And I love the way the kid comes back and says "Oh yeah?!"

I wish Jackson had included that part, too--that would've been hilarious :) At least he gave Boyd a chance to do a lot of Pippin-esque stuff, though!

I don't know.... I was over reading the big family thread and trying to decide whether to post that both sides of the 'selfish' argument need to live and let live.

It doesn't make sense to call big families selfish, but I don't like being called selfish if we ~don't~ have kids either!

I think I will, now that I wrote it... ;~D

Im looking forward to the bit that has been rumored to be in the EE...where Faramir talks with Pippin.

Boyd was a PERFECT Pippin...once he had canon lines...and when he was away from Dom...I mean, Merry...I mean...Dominic...

HI Hair! I was wondering since it may be tht you will have to move to a new hole soon, that perhaps you could say something about the palantir in it...since Pippin *did* wish we all had one...and here we are, all chatting with each other!!!

eeeevenin'... [sip]

I guess I'm glad there's no Ramius-cam. :-) Though... it would be fun to have one at the beach all the time, so I can check in from time to time.

There's really something to be said for setting up a few of them as security cams. Put them in motion-detection mode.

I don't follow - you mean in the title?

We are kinda set up to follow the poem this title quotes from at the top of the thread.. . been workin' our way through the lines...

But that is a purely arbitrary decision!

When I have my boarding stable, I think it would be popular to have a pasture cam, arena cam, barn cam, so that people can look in on their horse while they are at work!
