Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A sudden tree or standing stone

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

What the? Found ONCE in a hundred years...

Yep, remember the "Summer of the Shark?." All the news reports of how many shark attacks there were? Media hype. There were fewer attacks that year than most years. About half a dozen. Then 9/11 took the sharks out of the headlines.

Governor of Virginia even set up a "Shark Task Force" like there was anything he could do about it.

You don't want to be attacked by sharks?

Do that and you'll most likely be okay. The sharks are out there on the sand bars, but if you swim during the heat of the day, they're not active. The attacks that happened in Virginia and North Carolina that year both happened at 6:00 p.m.

NOTE: If the lifeguard is off the stand, it means it's time to get out of the water.

Do I need to bring some Texas tarantulas to your house?

There seems to be some uncertainty over where Whites range. Some sites I'm finding say they don't like cold water, but others say they do, which is what I've heard elsewhere. They (like orcas) seem to show up where seals are, which is why there's so many around San Francisco. In any case even if Whites may be scarce by you, there's other friends for Ruthy to play with :)

Gigantic Secrets Of Sixgill Sharks

Mystery surrounds sixgills, Puget Sound's largest resident sharks at an average of 7 to 9 feet long. . ."Imagine catching that on a rod and reel," said Bargmann as the crew raised a 630-pound shark out of the water. As it turned out, the 11-footer was the largest of 45 fish tagged that day in Colvos Passage. Many weighed several hundred pounds, but most were considerably smaller. Despite their size, sixgills are docile creatures. They don't attack people.

See, they don't attack people, Ruthy? Now don't you feel like you want to go swimming with 'em?--don't they look cute and cuddly? :)

Broadcast News is on at 8:30...

Dad, you want me to choose my words so carefully and then you just throw a word like 'obsessive' at me. Now, unless I'm wrong and ...please correct me if I am, 'obsession' is practically a psychiatric term... concerning people who don't have anything else but the object of their obsession -- who can't stop and do anything else. Well, Here I am stopping to tell you this. Okay? So would you please try and be a little more precise instead of calling a person something like 'obsessive.'

I could see that happening while night diving, LOL! Were you diving as part of serving out there or was it recreational?

Got a 'nother fargin icehole worm-or-sumpthin running in my Oakland office. Not sure what it is, tho. It doesn't show up on the virus scans, and it doesn't show up on any of the antivirus sites. But my network engineer thinks he's finally isolated it.

[adopt thick India accent] "What I am thinking is this. I am thinking that this is a malware not known previously. I have now blocked the ports to this machine and we should soon be identifying it. The situation is being under control."

God, I love these guys.

bwaaahahhahahaa... yeah, right...

Sixgill sharks are bottom-feeders. It's sorta like saying there are giant man-eating STURGEON. Uh... ain't gonna happen. :-)

I am thinking that you should have a good evening. What I am having now is a strong wish that you should be sleeping well.
