OK, I went straight to the properties source and saw the kick. That is pretty cool, to say the least. It's like flying!

If I tried to do something like that, I'd end up in the hospital!

Yeah, Jor-El, LOL! Actually I think it's only a computer Jor-El programmed, though. He's only appeared in flashbacks himself, but he sent a computer to Earth along with Kal-El when Krypton exploded, and apparently (from what we've been told so far) he actually planned for the computer to teach Kal-El to conquer the Earth once he grew up--a plan which Clark and his parents have been resisting, but Jor-El has been making Clark an offer he can't refuse by threatening Ma and Pa Kent and Lana if he doesn't obey. . .

Yes, it's kind of like flying momentarily. I've seen ice skaters use a similar technique.
