Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A sudden tree or standing stone
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I understand. I think the problem is that those of us who don't need to see it are the ones being impacted the most.
Those who need the lesson, won't learn it once again.

Which has nothing to do with what you were talking about, I know. Well, actually it does. In spite of all the crap that I've been through (and continue to go through), I was only in recent years that I got a real clear picture of what that verse means.

when I explained to theboy that the terrorists cut of Nick Berg's head, he shook his head and muttered, "kill 'em all..." I haven't told Matthew about this...haven't even let him watch the news. He's dealing with his sick friend and I just can't put any more on him.
It's bad. His prognosis is very bad. We are praying for a miracle.

Some things kids just don't need to know about. Just hold him close and help him love his friend.

As for the Hobbits of the Shire, with whom these tales are concerned, in the days of their peace and prosperity they were a merry folk. They dressed in bright colours, being notably fond of yellow and green...

It's made such an impact on our lives. You know Matthew accepted the Lord when he was six, and meant business about it too, because you can see the Holy Spirit working in his life.
One evening recently at the dinner table, Matthew blurted out "I think we need to pray for Alan RIGHT NOW." So we all stopped eating and prayed HARD for him. When we were done, I asked Matthew why he thought he needed to pray for Alan and he said he didn't know. I took the opportunity to explain about the Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts and that he needs to always be aware of when we might being hearing from Him. I told him that some people, as they get older or because of pride, don't listen. And that some can't even hear.
It was a wonderful teaching moment...

"If Muslims worldwide DON'T cry out in horror at that video" Not expecting it, it didn't happen after 9/11 or Daniel Pearl. It's why I'm starting to feel the way I do, hard as it seems.
I'm getting to the point where the very fact that Islam can exist makes me despair for our species.

The only person the boys have lost is their grandpa a couple of years back (when we started the 2nd Hobbit Hole thread).
This is so hard because they all hang out together, being homeschooled...you know how they do? All ages (within reason) kinda hang around together. Matthew's best friend is actually this boy's little brother...but they all are always together. There are five kids in the family and they all hang out with the homeschoolers, except for the teenage daughter (understandably)...she hangs out with the older homeschoolers.

I can't find any justification for the existence of Islam, at this point. Ignorance and savagery would be an improvement.I switched to Fox News yesterday, after reading here on FR that they were having live footage from combat in Fallujah. Instead, in their "fair and balanced" mode, they had some academic asshole pontificating "Bush lost the war because he failed to take into account islamic sensibilities."
What are "islamic sensibilities?". Cowardice, murder, torture, and the enslavement of women. Plus a glorification of male sexual excess, despite the fact that even Bill Clinton is better endowed than them.
Why do these "sensibilities" need consideration? They are diametrically opposed to anything any Christian, Jew, Bhuddist, pagan, agnostic, or atheist would tolerate among their own kind. Did we consider the "sensiblities" of the nazis or the commies?
Well, in a sense we did. We gave them the choice of dumping those "sensibilities", or dying. They chose to die, therefore preventing the transmission of those "sensibilities" to another generation. Islam has the opportunity to choose, and they will determine their fate based on that choice.

It does look more aqua and also brighter in the pic than it does in person. Inside, it looks like a dark hunter green.
