Have y'all been over to the thread posted by MRS. Ceegar Guy? He's with his family now and recovering well. (If you missed the news, he was wounded on his 2nds tour in Iraq and lost an eye.)
His wife searched out FR after receiving our cards and now she has registered and posted a thank you thread. She's been reading our threads to him.
Head over there and send your best wishes.

Hey, I'm just back from Seattle and off to Maine tomorrow but I wanted you guys to know about a MoveOn.org tv spot I saw out in Wash state this week. It shows all these photos of John Kerry in uniform and of the kind of boat he drove in Vietnam and talks about what a courageous guy he was and then it shows Bush with a smirky smile in his National Guard uniform and lists all his supposed "no shows" at Guard mtgs et al. I was pretty ticked and I felt it was rather ironic that Kerry had just decided (yeah right) to "take the gloves off" and go after Bush's war record and within a couple of days, pow, there's this ad. I'm certainly not naive enough to believe they ginned this spot up in 3 days. Kerry is such a fop. MoveOn.org is something to watch -- and counter.

DS -
I've been away from news and the internet all week traveling and didn't take my computer w/me. I didn't know anything about kerrey and hamilton walking out on the pres - what's up with that?
Also re: Derby tomorrow -- my money's on Smarty Jones! I'm back on a plane tomorrow afternoon but hopefully will catch the Derby on a layover at O'Hare. If not, will you yell for the both of us for Smarty? (Hope you have a lovely hat for the race! Have a mint julep on me.)

John McCain doesn't look healthy. The swelling on the left side of his face looks to have enlarged. They stripped all those lymph nodes on that side when they did the melanoma removal, which accounts for a lot if not all of the swelling. But it seems to have grown more pronounced, and his left eye looks to be affected by it. When you remove a melanoma lesion, you try to make as wide and deep of an excision as possible. That's kinda hard to do on the face, where multiple nerves and little "free" tissue exists.
The other thing about McCain - he was on tv (LKL or something) two or three days after his wife had the stroke. He was hawking his book. Wouldn't you think the guy'd be at his wife's side for at least a week after such a traumatic event?

Several people commented on McCain seemingly worrying more about face time on TV than on his incapacitated wife. Strange.

The photos were of the lodge/conference center where we met - very nice, but no golf course (drat!). Just down the road are Denison U. and Granville, which is a pretty little college town.

I hope that IG brought her umbrella AND the trench coat...a chilly thunderstorm has descended upon CenTex: whacked our electrical service for over an hour early this morning and is continuing still. Here's a collage of our great-nephew put together by freeper grannie9.

Kerrey finally apologized but not to the President and VP.
KERREY 'SORRY' FOR SLIGHTMay 1, 2004 -- Yesterday's Post.Democratic 9/11 commission member Bob Kerrey apologized yesterday to the families of the terror victims for dashing out in the middle of the panel's Oval Office interview with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Kerrey was reacting to The Post's front-page yesterday - "Oval Office Insult" - which described how he and fellow Democratic panelist Lee Hamilton slipped out of a side door of the White House on Thursday about 40 minutes before the session was over.
"I apologize to the families if they're offended by this," Kerrey told CNN. "But I do think that I've represented the families' interests and did so in the questioning to the president."
Kerrey and Hamilton's early exit - in the middle of the commission's one and only chance to question Bush and Cheney about 9/11 - stunned many Washington officials, as well as family members.

Okay I will put my money on Smarty Jones, lol...but I won't mind if Pollard's Vision comes in 2nd...maybe an exacta box?
Kentucky Derby hopeful Pollard's Vision has his nose rubbed by exercise rider Michelle Nihei in his stable at Churchill Downs Sunday, April 25, 2004, in Louisville, Ky. Named for Seabiscuit jockey Red Pollard, the colt is blind in his right eye, just as Pollard was. (AP Photo/Ed Reinke)

What a friend you have in grannie9..wonderful collage. 'Course she had a great subject. Carson is adorable and "all boy"..
Hope you have a hot toddy waiting for IG if she finally gets there..
To: daisyscarlett
grannie9 (now up to 13 since she first registered to post here) is a witch with her digital picture programs...we've almost got one of my father's walls papered with pictures of Carson.
IG was scheduled in here Thursday, way late-thirty, and has meetings solidly booked, but there may be the chance of a get-together this evening around 6 - I hope.
You know better than to ask either of us for digital documentation of this event.
Cheers out there, DS.

We should invite Peggy to become an honorary Texan - she has our way of cutting to the chase when necessary. So Peggy, if you're reading this, Lodwick and I would like to make you an honorary Texan. Let us know where to send your Luchesse boots and Stetson.

Odd, he doesn't seem interested in airing videos of the World Trade Center attack showing people jumping out of windows. I also thought it odd that they would exclude the fallen soldiers from Afghanistan.
How about an hour show on all the good things happening in Iraq? How about a little support for the troops and civilians working their rear ends off everyday, day after day dodging bombs and bullets to get the water, electricity, schools and hospitals running?
If that kind of coverage had been forthcoming I wouldn't be so suspicious of the message that Ted and ABC are trying to send with this tribute show.
I would dare to say the majority of Americans don't need any reminding of what's going on in Iraq. The ones who need reminding certainly aren't going to turn on Nightline, they're too busy finding their next crack fix, switching the channel to Ricki Lake or surfing the net for porn.
