Does anyone out there have a clue what to do for a dog who is itchy ALL the time. I've tried Benedryl, she's about 20lbs, I gave her 1/2 teaspoon enough? I tried the shots from the vet they worked some but didn't last as long as he said they would. He said 4 wks, she was itching again in 2. I've tried numerous kinds of shampoo, but I think they make her itch worse. Some days her skin is real pink others not so bad. But she is usually biting at the end of her back where her tail is. She also has goopy eyes some in the morning. Can dogs be allergic to grass? If so how in the world do you help that?

She could be allergic to any number of things... I do know someone whose dog ended up so allergic to grass that she found her another home in the city.

My Zulu got itchy too... When they lick and enflame the skin they just get itchier. Iodine shampoo worked for mine. Call your vet and ask about how much benedryl. I had to give benedryl to my bee-eating dog when she got stung and was amazed at the amount recommended for dogs. Dogs are much more tolerant to benedryl than we are, and the max dose is really high. I think I remember giving 4 people pills to my little 20 pound dog.
