The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Electronics never work well for females. It's not fair. What'd you do?

It was ok. Mostly work on rein control. I just had a small area of grass for us to play in and we just walked it and walked it :') Someone showed me a different way to get on the saddle. World of difference. No hesitation or fear of the saddle slipping and falling. She had me stand beside him instead of facing the saddle and hold the mane and right front of the saddle instead of placing my hand on the seat. If I went back now it would be dirt and I would be pulling the saddle back instead of down. Eating dirt not something I want to do but I can handle it. I never want to fall on that mounting block again though.

Not since Pooh fell off, but Jerry's been ponying her. He took her to candy creek yesterday morning for about three hours he said.
I got to where you type a post and couldn't figure out how to get back with out typing a post.

She looks like she could have some TB in her. She's real long and lanky.

I thought putting your hand on the seat sounded hard. I hold the reins and horn in my right hand and the mane in my left. I think I stand facing towards the front of the horse.

Yeah but you don't use a mounting block (where I should be). I'm standing sideways on it now. If I slip I won't fall anywhere near it now , this way.

She brought him up here the first night she got him. He is cute. I think Elizabeth has one too.

I try that but it didn't work. Who knows, I'm at a lose on computers. Travis will probably take it a way from me before I blow it up.lol

It's a 8 hour drive. I was the crazy one that brought those two back during awake hours. This way they will sleep 4-5 hours of the trip:')

Hey I still use a rock if one is available. No sense in straining yourself:)

i looked at them as a necessary evil until I found FR:')
To: CindyDawg
I think I stand facing the saddle when I mount, but I also have a sort pony so I think that helps a bunch.

Funny how you don't know what you do by thinking of it. I'll have to pay attention tomorrow and see what I do.
