The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

She could be allergic to any number of things... I do know someone whose dog ended up so allergic to grass that she found her another home in the city.
My Zulu got itchy too... When they lick and enflame the skin they just get itchier. Iodine shampoo worked for mine. Call your vet and ask about how much benedryl. I had to give benedryl to my bee-eating dog when she got stung and was amazed at the amount recommended for dogs. Dogs are much more tolerant to benedryl than we are, and the max dose is really high. I think I remember giving 4 people pills to my little 20 pound dog.

York is just as good as snapfish. I've used them. The links stay really stable, unlike some that go to red x after lots of hits. You can host them there for a year before they want you to buy something.
The URLs are really long, make sure you select all of it when you copy to post.

Really, I was using childrens strengh. Maybe that is why I saw no effect. She seems really tolerant to medications. Advantage and Frontline only last on her about 2 wks. I don't like putting it on her that often. On my heelers they could go almost 2 months with one dose. I don't know what the deal is with Susie. Is it her or Jack Russells? Just like the shot the vet gave her didn't last long.

The first time Zulu got stung I gave her just part of a capsule and it didn't get better. her whole face was swelling up and it was a pathetic sight.
The vet told me dogs metabolize benedryl much differently and I was shocked at how much she recommended. I'd call to verify for yours, but I was led to believe it is hard to give too many.

Can't help you with the dog. I just tell Cindy to stop scratching and that works for her; Speaking of meds though I went to Walmarts and looked at the carb craving vitamins. I'm not going to spend that much money to not eat ( yall that don't know, I'm trying to lose weight to give Okies back a rest among some other reasons and I've been on a low carb diet) Funny thing is that I have changed things up a little. I now only do the low carb every other day. I'm losing faster and feeling a whole lot better. I just tell myself "you only have to go til midnight:')

after i get off work tommorrow i will come over and you can show me how you post your pictures and maybe then i can figure it out on mine.

Guys are like that. Mine always calling Cindy a whiner and useless and "your dog" but she goes to him when she wants out,or get this, when she wants me to turn off the lights or the computer screen. Seems it disturbs her sleep! He will also call to make sure she's in the house if the weather bad and will pick her up and put her in the truck to go for rides. She hangs around me if she wants a hamburger or junk food or to play.

CS, If your confused click on Cindy's home page, by clicking her name at the end of a post of hers.
Her screen name is actually her dog's name:)
