The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"Don't know why she's getting bigger."

You are feeding her better plus she may be happy that you own her now.

"I don't know how you stay up. I worked 7p-7a for years and crashed as soon as I got home. One day I even fell asleep in my car in the driveway"

LOLOL sometimes it isn't easy!! I just make sure that I get at least 6 hours sleep, and I am usually fine. When I get off of work my adrenaline is going, so I cannot sleep until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, then I get up around 9 or 10 at night.

Hard to say from that alone. I am sure she has been popped in the head at some point.... but they can be surprised by you reaching up unexpectedly too and step back.

I am and she looks like shes getting better but I thought her belly too big to begin with and she needed worming since she needed everything else. Just in a few days from a comfortable fit at four to a tight at 3 when I was expecting that area to shrink some. Oh well, maybe nothing as you say.

She's filling out on her shoulders but I can still run my hand on her flank and easily push around loose skin. You can't with Okie. He's rock solid. Her coat looking much better too.

No it wasn't unexpected. I was slow and made sure she saw. Only the second time in the round pen. I thought we did this the last time.....

"Do they come in White?"

At that price, they should paint it any color you wish. : )

I don't really know what to think of that. I bet it's a real gas hog. Otherwise It would pull a lot of horses.

Tell you a secret. She probably doesn't need to be lunged but we are there and she's so good at it. Usually I just play with her outside with a long lead rope while Okie gets the works in the pen. I used to just tie her up on the wash rack but she would keep knickering. It keeps her busy til I'm ready to ride:')

Someone's pet that got away.

I don't want a pet that eats other pets. I can't handle the drama!

Wow that really got some feedback there. Have to clarify that "laying into a horse" did not in my case mean flailing away like an idiot. Well not that time at any rate.

A fair amount of jumping and dressage. Enough dressage to figure that I didn't want to get into it anymore. Did enjoy the jumping though I was not the smoothest rider around. Too tense and hunchbacked. I remember cabbelleti cabelleti cabareti caboroni whats-it, that was early on. And jumps a couple yards apart so had to get the legwork right. Stopping at post number five and leading off again with the correct leg. Heading full throttle for a bar jump and (polite little wanker) being let over first. Changing lead and posting in mid-stride. Well that was the idea but I figure it was more an accidental occurrence, haha...

So much forgotten. Muscles ain't what they used to be.

Naw, better not put me on the ping list, used to be a heavy user but now I'm on sporadically and trying to keep up with Meek's pings already. Thanks though.

Yeah I know. I was just expecting her to be wormy and if it was swelling to decrease with TX. I don't care how big her belly is as long as it's a healthy big.

"I bet it's a real gas hog"

I came to the conclusion that most trucks are gas hogs when you are pulling a trailer full of horses. A truck with air brakes is my preferred way to pull a horse trailer.
