The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Not boycotting, just trying to catch up with ~two~ very chatty threads today! And my husband is talking about saw blades and pasture seed and dog food and other errands behind me. I'm swamped.

I'm pretty excited to get him started tonight. I've got my routine all figured in my mind.

Lope circles, both directions. Then walk the pattern, approching the turn in the new postion, then really getting him to bend around it. I think he'll catch on fast enough that I'll be able to trott it some tonight too. If we trot, I'll really be getting him to sit down, at the point he needs to start bending. Trot too that point set him down firmly, back a step then walk the turn with his body bending, then trot to the next one.

Can't wait:), the mechanics of it is all making so much more sense to me. And after watching all those girls run this weekend....Can't wait to try:) Charlie is coming too. He's going to coach:). He is also more knowledgeable about bits then I am. Might have a tip on that.

It might be hard to see in pictures, but I'll take some and try to explain.

Did I say I'm really excited to try it:)

OK, I'll get some one to take pictures of the body postion of the horse the way I was doing it, and they new way I've figured out. Might make some interesting conversation. Pros and cons of each way.

Cindy, have you ever seen any barrel racing at all?

Thinking of the barrel race I saw this weekend, did I tell you about the tractors:)

I never saw anything so cool. I'd sell my horses if I could do that. LOL. There were 3 big John Deere tractors, all shined up, and after every 5 runs they drug the arena, But these guys were going about as fast as those tractors could go. It was breath taking. I don't see how they kept from crashing into each other. Or the wall for that matter when they were parking them after they were thru. Something I can't describe but it was awesome. 3 tractors pedal to the metal in an arena all going different directions. They had the arena drug in a minute or less.

I think the tractor drivers had some groupies in the stands too. I was told these 3 men go all over the country following the Pro barrel series with their tractors. What a life:)
