Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Probably not much. I am having a pretty quiet day probably, with a little house tidying. Man it poured last night. Hard rain, large drops, so loud it sounded like hail. All clear this morning, if a little soggy. Hope you have a great ride...
Well riding a bust for me today too. Stuff not flowing well. Hopefully we will be out of here to Houston about noon. Going to do a turn around trip:'(
*sigh*
Same here!!! Bengal cats? You mean the tame ones right?
Wow! What a day! I just staggered in the door after the Shamrock Hounds Hunter Pace. Yeep! Sadists designed this course! Two hours and twenty-six minutes over extremely varied (and some very steep) terrain, water and a number of not too large jumps. The crazy Irish guy who laid out the course made the target time much too fast - so NOBODY made time (I mean NObody, not one person out of 126 entries in all categories) and we all were galloping like maniacs to try to make it.
And Gracie - my darling Gracie - is obviously feeling the effects of her new supplements and went a little crazy. It was all I could do to hold her. When we got out in an open pasture and were galloping hell for leather across rolling hills for about two miles, she started bucking on all the downhills and porpoising on all the uphills. I did NOT come off, thank goodness, but after awhile I just had to let her out a notch and let her go until she got her sense back. Of course, after 30 minutes of this she was completely blown, so that stopped all the galloping frenzy. She got her breath back after awhile, and we finished at a smart trot (but still about four minutes under time.) I took her straight to the wash rack and hosed her down, and she was fine.
She did great over the fences, mostly small coops about 2-3 feet in height. I passed on a couple of them (there's always a way around), especially the one up out of dark woods into bright sunlight and the one at the bottom of a steep and very rocky hill. There was a lurking photographer at one coop, so maybe I'll be able to post a pic of us in flight. (All of us were MUCH too busy to ever take a camera out of a saddle bag.)
Horses, out of their pasture and standing in the middle of a freshly mowed hay field. Bet their ears were burning after the owner rounded them up and put them back in his pasture. : )
Sounds like an exciting ride! I do hope you get a picture out of it to show us! Sounds like a neat event to do. Someday perhaps. :~)
Escape is a fun thing to do on a Saturday!
The hay is still laying there drying? I bet is smelled good!
Good! I was gonna say! You better get that hay up you might have a storm coming!
It does smell sweet. One half of the first field is done and the other half to be baled tomorrow afternoon. If there is time, may get started on the second field tomorrow too.
"Good! I was gonna say! You better get that hay up you might have a storm coming!"
Yes, it is drawing a bead on my hay fields, even as we speak. Have to get it the barn before Wednesday. : (

"Bengal Cat"
That reminds me, I have to buy more cat food..... : )
That sounds like a blast! Excepty why is it the faster horses go the moreit wears out the rider. The horse is doing all the work:)
Are all Hunter Pace rides pretty fast? The name of it "Hunter" seems to indicate that. Some one should put together a "Pleasure" Pace:)
Becky
Good morning
Becky
Good Morning. Any horse plans for today?
Good morning Becky! Nice cool little stream ya got there Cav!
Today is "dad comes down with the chainsaw day". Brother coming too, to help us out with the back forty cleanup. We've done a lot already but we need this chain saw help!
Morning.... you know... one of these days I ~still~ need to get around to starting a new thread :~D
