The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Funny. I remember when I first saw that picture I was wondering if he would be big enough for me to ride. He looked so short. I was really surprised about how tall and big he actually was when I saw him (a good surprise)

Not really. He just seems to like to get in chairs. Lots of times I've seen him out sittin in the lawn chairs. He's gotten to big to lay in them now tho.

Yeah. I just got back from the stables. It's lighting now but thundering and lightening and gets heavy at times. Didn't get to ride. I was going to ride in the light rain but it just kept getting worse.

Kind of like what Grizzly did to that couch:)

I put it away before I left this morning. He destroyed the seat off my motorcycle a few weeks ago. One more thing, I think he'll be a dead dog rather then a goofy one.

Eddies Dalmation would chew up anything. He was the one that broke Cindys hip. The dog even ate my banana trees. I beat him with strawberry vines once. (all he left me) After he was stolen I didn't even report it. I figured the thief would be punished enough.

LOL

This morning before we left for church I planted a couple of Rose of Sharon bushes Jenny brought me yesterday. When I got home one of them was pulled out of the ground. I planted it again.

BTW, our church gave all the mothers today rose bushes. I got a climbing one for the fence.

Well, I got a corsage with a rose. The preacher made me mad (again) . He wanted all the mothers to come forward. I didn't want to but he specifically singled me out when I didn't get up. After pictures (grrr) he wanted testamonies about mothers. He kept saying anyone else since a few of us remained silent and then when we were dismissed he remarked, those were wonderful testamonies. I don't know why some of you didn't but I guess you have your reasons (or something like that) He bugs me about this again tonight and I'm going to tell him I love and honor my mother and that she's a fine woman, but a little on the wild side, didn't take me to church much, and likes to talk to her grandson about things her mother would have beat her butt if she knew she had done and see what he says.

Great pics - Glad you figured out how to do that, now you can always post pics for us! Try again to do trail pics, I am curious to know what your trail riding terrain is like!

I don't like services that put people on the spot like that. I am a pretty shy person! I visited a church not too long ago when ecurbh was asked to play his trombone. It was a bit of a holy roller service with a lot of music, which I liked, but part of the service the pastor asked everyone to make up a promise or contract with God to do something in the coming week, and stand when you had made that promise. Well, I don't remember the nature of what he was asking us to commit too, but I didn't get into it right then, and it was awkward for the people who didn't really want to stand up and make some display of a declaration. I just don't like being called out like that I guess... I grew up in a very shy quiet Lutheran church ;~D

Nope! June 19. Not waiting any longer! Many in his family are school teachers so we had to wait until they could travel during summer... We offered to just elope!
