The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Our lot 70x150. My husband bought this huge riding lawnmower a few years ago (the "tractor"). They use it here but I prefer the push mower. Now at the lake, I ride it all over the place. Here you really don't see a lot of difference but mowing there once a month I can really tell I'm mowing.

"Slow day for horses it appears."

Wish I had time to spend with my three. The mare needs to be bred and the team needs to be working. Argh! : )

Do you have a place with more acreage picked out yet?

I think Beaker rode today.?

Mine were lucky they got fed. I've been in and out all day. But I don't normally ride on Fri, or Sun.

I may not ride tomorrow either. There is a big big barrel race in Tulse this weekend. Started yesterday. 500 entered. They run 50 and hour. I;d like to go watch awhile tomorrow, then have to go to my nieces 1st birthday party at 2:00

We are still just in the looking phase. There are 21 acres down the road from the stables we are thinking about. It's just such a big move to start over. We would have to move, or put someone on the property if we pastured though. Okie would be across the border in a heartbeat.

Mine are on pasture for the time being. Feeding them is not a bother right now. Are you close to Tulsa?

I'm going to try to ride early in the morning. My son flying in Monday and I have to take his jeep to around Houston tomorrow. I'm going to miss it. It's nice to take on the dirt roads to the stables.

Yeah, it's hard to tell were Bixby ends and Tulsa starts. It's probably 20 miles to where the barrel race is from my house. But that is really nothing for us.

"Nope, no place to ride. Have to pay in order to ride"

Where were you when I was looking for someone to ride my horses? I sold both because they were not being rode at all. : )

Well I get off on typing out equations though it's alot more cool with latex. In the most general form the transformation could be expressed as

x^j = A(^j)(_i) x^i,

where A(^j)(_i) is some sort of operator for transformation into Minkowski space. And yeah I did have to look this up because I forget how the contravariants and covariants go...

Anyhoo horses. Good stuff. Haven't ridden in years but still remember the time that Arabian hag pitched my happy butt into the dirt. I had to lie there for a good five minutes watching the clouds go by...

Got back up and mounted that little twit again, by Gawd... Laid on her pretty heavy with the crop action at that. I never did care for Arabians...

Beaker did not ride today because Beaker was bloody exhasusted after pulling two 12 hour days in a row. :-) But I am riding twice next week to make up for it. Tuesday and Friday. I felt awful having to cancel on my trainer, but I got called into work as well anyway. Public observing is on Friday nights, and one person cancled, leaving only one person on deck to set up telescopes. It was an interesting night. We blew a fuse to two of the monster scopes, so we were stuck using one 14 inch that was older than dirt, and two of the 12" scopes. 6.5 hours and 2 obnoxious young children later, here I am.
