Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I was born in Ks. But have lived in OK for 46 years.

I did have my own horse at one point in time. Don't know if I want to raise my own colts. I once worked for a 15+ horse barn with a clientel of 35+ kids. Yeah. After that I just want to be my own boss. :-)Being your own horseman is a wonderful wonderful thing. (Or woman in my case.)
"I end up staying on because I'm stubborn as heck and I don't want to be on the ground before I'm ready. :-)"
That is a good attitude. The last two times I came off was when both horses reared up all the way backwards and landed on me. Luckily, I wasn't seriously hurt either time. One horse was mine and the other belonged to a friend. : )
Things that make you go wow!
Wow.... what a drama!
WoW! :'(
Oh wow. I'm glad that you weren't seriously hurt! These weren't draft horses were they?
Was this story on tv, cold case files or something like that?
The thing that kept me awake nights about the whole thing is, if my kids had wanted to go with them that day I would have let them. Which means he wouldn't have done it that day, or they'd have got it to.
Something else funny about that deal was some of the neighbors believed from the beginning he did it because the girl had told them if something ever happens to me he did it. Now why the hell would she stay with a guy like that? I didn't know all that till after he died.
Becky
Oh why not:')
WOW!
I don't know.

"But have lived in OK for 46 years"
You are certified as an OK now. : )
We've lived in Bixby now for 25 years, and the people around here have finally stopped calling us squatters and homesteaders:)

"Don't know if I want to raise my own colts."
I have raised a couple and enjoyed every minute of it. : )
That's amazing. Sometimes it's the quiet ones. You really can never know what some people can do.
Neither one, bith are gaited horses. I blame myself for what my horse did. I made it stand with it's rear feet in a fire ant bed without realizing it until it was too late. It turned and walked away but I made it go back and stand there as we were in formation. Bad idea! The other horse was just unhappy because it is used to being ridden by it's owner only. That was the only reason and after that incident it behaved perfectly the rest of the weekend. : )
"the people around here have finally stopped calling us squatters and homesteaders:)"
LOL! : )
"bith"=both! Argh!
"WoW! :'("
I felt a lot better, when it quit hurting....... : )
