The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Have you used a shedding blade on Bay? I love those things. They work wonders.

I'm not that familiar with racing. What do you mean by pin fired? I had a jockey friend who kept trying to convince me to get into racing, but I was too busy with other horse stuff to really pay it much mind.

You can post pictures from a site called Photobucket.com You can upload pictures from your computer to it, and then copy and past the tag that it provides into your comment box. (I would recommend doing a preview first before you actually post)

Ya got the cake before the preacher? priorities, right? lol

Actually we were getting my uncle who is a minister to do it but he can't. I've talked to a lot of preachers . They don't want to mess with it until they go thru counseling. Must be something new. I don't think it's necessary though. Maybe being a health professional I should have a better perspective here but honestly has anyone ever convinced anyone to not get married when they want to, even if obvious problems?

Dang, this horse still sheddind and I don't think Okie leaves any dirt in the pasture. I had to pull my t-shirt up over my nose today. Dust and hair flying everywhere.

Shedding blade?

I don't know if they have ever talked anyone out of it or not! Ours was not a big deal, we met with our pastor three times total, and one was at the house and was more like the rehearsal of what we'd do.

Glad you got the horse! How come you're the one broke and borrowin' money? I thought you 'sold' a horse to Eddie in this deal too! should have at least broke even!

Photobucket seems even easier than the places I know about if it gives you the code and everything. Lemondropkid31, let us know if you need other help understanding how to post pics, we're pretty good at explaining this now!

This is a shedding blade. One side has teeth that allow you to remove dirt and loose hair. They're great. Work much better than just currying alone.

Yeah Photobucket is great. Below each picture it gives you the URL, Tag, and IMG code each in its own seperate box to copy and paste.

Pin-firing is a way of treating strained tendons and ligaments in lower legs. Because tendons have very little blood flow and are therefore slow to heal, they actually fire a pin repeatedly into the whole lower leg, creating an injury that will draw blood circulation to the leg and help it heal faster. the scars from it look like a zipper down the leg and last for life. It's been so long since ~I've~ seen one that's had it done, I wonder if it is no longer common.

Couldn't find a really clear picture, but you can see it here.
