The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"WoW, what nice horses!!! Pretty land too. I love everything green."

Thank You! You will really like me, as people say I am about as green as they come. : )

"I rode a belgian quarter cross and he was wonderful. He wasnt all that big, but nice and solid and very smart. My riding instructor has all kinds of warmbloods. They are wonderful animals."

I have seen the draft crossbreds called Sporthorses in jumping competition. They are impressive.

I am here for the next half hour. I have to go to work by 11:20. I hate the night shift.

But yes, I love horses. And I love green, and big ranches.

Yea, what's wrong with them???? I would never leave my family if they had a ranch.

Yes, they are great horses, I love them. THey have nice strong legs and pretty even tempered, they can get hot, but now like a regular thoroughbred. One of the horses I rode was a thoroughbred cross, and she was a bit flighty, but not too bad.

I have been working midnight to 8am for about 2 years I think, before that I worked 10pm to 6am. I did that for a year. Security also. That was the first thing available when I moved to Texas. I am about to take classes in Houston for criminal justice. THAT'S when I will get my day job LOL. No chance working security day shift.

My other horses were gaited, racking/walking bloodlines. They were fairly smooth to ride.

I rode a Puruvian Paso once. It was really nice, but I wanted to go fast and I could not get it to go very fast LOL.

I have seen some of the racking horses that could walk faster than my horse could run and keep up. : )

This is no lie. When I was 18 (32 years ago)I got a security job working at a major airport. We had to wear these dorky fringed skirts and carry these big revolvers. We were told never to touch them, take them out or use them. Never! To be able to say we were armed out of a group of about 20 women one bullet was placed in one gun. We never knew which and I was to dumb and scared to look.:')
