The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread
Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads
. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts
look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in
. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics
land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news
. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

"We're back stuffed ourselves on prime rib. :~D" Just hamburger steak with Vidalia onions for dinner here. (sniff) : )
Ok, let me see what I can do about the hayfield.

I would pay to go on a guided hurricane and tornado tour! I'd love that stuff.

She looks all sweet and innocent, but she's a hellion! Love her to pieces though. I had a calico that was a wild cat, and we brought her in. Had one or two strays that we fed, but we were never able to bring into the house.
I'm so sorry about the kitten. I don't understand how people can be that... careless. That's not even the word for it. Tikki got out once and got hit, either before or after she was mauled by a dog, we're not sure. She broke both her hips and her jaw, and has no canine teeth. She's quite the miracle cat, because you'd never know that all of that happened to her. Her favorite thing to do is jump on you from five feet away and ride on your shoulders, and she once gummed a bat to death. :-)

I love hurricanes, but you can keep the tornados! Been through one of them too, in a stop over in Georgia. We were on a drive down to Fl, and that night I woke up to what I thought was a very loud, scary train. It was (you guessed it) a tornado, and it LEVELED the hotel next door to us. Completely. Cars turned over, rubble everwhere.

My husbands "monster" truck:')

This is my hayfield, ready to be cut and baled into round bales as soon as the weather settles down and clears for a few days. That is my camera bag in the foreground to give you an idea of the height of the grass.
Hair, that white dot you see among the trees in the distance is, you guessed it, one of my prized "Planters."

The white one my "truck"
To: Inge_CAV
Ah.... maybe tomorrow you can take some better pictures of that planter. ;~D

Nice truck! Is it a 3/4 ton model?
To: Inge_CAV
He says yeah. Too big for me to back and he says I drive it like a gas truck:')
To: CindyDawg
"The white one my "truck" Nice one too. If you let the top down, your horse can ride too. I have had a couple of horses that would try to get into my truck if I left the door open. : )

Thank you very much for the advice! Yeah, the draft cross that I worked with had a big bold trot, but in his canter, he just slapped his feet down wherever he pleased. It was a slow canter, but the most uncomfortable thing in the world. It sent your spine up into your skull. (Well, you know what I mean) :-)
Clydesdales can be hot, you're right. Wow, crossing it with a T'bred. Must have been a handful.
Belgain/Quarterhorse might be the way to go, because it's exactly what we would need. Large and weightbearing without being too big to handle. (I'm tiny, and have all the horse brains, so I'd be doing all the grunt work!) :-) There's also another draft breed that I can't think of the name of. But they are usually dun in color and have mohawk manes that are tan in color with a black stripe in the middle. It's on the tip of my tounge, and I just can't remember!

"Ah.... maybe tomorrow you can take some better pictures of that planter. ;~D" I made sure that no planters were in the pictures today. : )

My lab loves to cruise with the top down:')
To: CindyDawg
"My lab loves to cruise with the top down:')" That would be ok, as long as he does not go for a swim first. : )
To: HairOfTheDog
Say, where is the "Ranch-wife" you were talking about? I have picked some Muscadines for her to make jelly with.
To: HairOfTheDog
I'm going to go ahead and buy her tomorrow. She told me if anything signicantly wrong at the vets or even If I change my mind she'll buy her back .
