Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The mare funny today. She is wary of water hoses on the ground and doesn't like her back legs wet. She was moving some on me. After done I let her free graze. The owner was showing me that I had her halter on a little twisted. I was on the horses left, she the right. She started to pull the rope to her that was dragging. The horse spooked and jumped back out of the halter and ran right to thr fence towards Okie on the other side. At the same time he was running up to the fence towards her. Maybe just coincidence but it was like she went to him. The owner tried to catch her but she kept running off. I walked up to her and put the leadrope back on.

In the barn I was showing the owner a cut she had on her leg. She touched the back leg to check it and the horse jumped sideways. I told her about how she was with those back legs and that she'll kick at dogs and that I have to run my hands down her flank and leg so she knows where I'm at or she won't let me touch her legs either but that she's getting real good with me. The owner says she probably has had "cowdogs"? nipping at her feet on the ranch and that most horses hate them and she doubted that much grooming had been done and probably feels like she is in heaven right now.

Oops, I think they are around sixteen or seventeen hands and in working condition weigh around 1,600 to 1,800 lbs each. You do not want one to step on your toes...... : )

LOL! Lurker Beth used to tease me about my other horse because her butt had dimples on it, right above her tail. : )
