The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I can't imagine he did that high one with feet. He might have tossed a rock up there though.

I gotta go for a little bit. Honey wants to go for a walk 'cuz he's been cooped up all day. I haven't, I mowed the lawn ;~D But I can always use a walk.

You may have to build an electric fence out away from the tin. It is easy to do with metal fence posts and plastic insulaters. Only takes a few minutes to put up or to take it down. : )

We have a lot of hot wire around here, but actually it is not that easy to sink posts here. We have lots and lots of rock. We paid a fencing company to put up the perimeter fence. Rocky is our stud and he cribs real bad, so his run is all hot wire, we even had to run a wire over the tops of the T posts as he will crib on them. Our arena and Rusty's pen are panels. We just can't get posts far enough in to make them sturdy. When we cleared the 100 x 200 space for the arena we hauled 17 dump truck loads of rock away and over the years more have surfaced. This is the pile that has come out of the ground in our arena, since we put it up:

Around here, people go to quarries and ~buy~ rocks like that to landscape with ;~D

We went out for a walk, goal: better picture of the horses with the pasture Bush sign :~D

Thank heavens for Bobcats:)

How do you get your horses to run around the pasture?

Ok, it still won't work. (I'll send measurements next) She wouldn't bring her back feet in. The panel too high. She can't get her head over without hyperextending. and was starting to get ancy and we didn't want to spook her so we opened the panel, walked her in and then backed her out.

I haven't already! But I was hoping to take a picture that was a little cooler than the one they use at the Bush store....

I think it's better with the horses!

Huh... Your trailer must be considerably shorter than my friend's then.

Think about you are standing at the back of the trailer. The divider slanted. On the back you have 66 inches deep on the left and 75 inches on the right. The front reversed but the same dimensions. (not counting the circled area.)The trailer is 6 ft wide. The big problem...the panel 58 and 1/4 inches high. We looked at two straights. They were both 77 inches in depth and the panel their head goes over was 44 inches high on one and 43 inches on the other. We brought the divider home and Eddie going to cut it down unless you guys see a problem here.

We call then dirtdobbers. The darn things keep getting into the AC on top of the camper at the lake and Eddie has to take it apart and clean it out. We covered it with a bag but it's always gone when we get back.

Is the divider suppose to be slanted or are you slanting it?

It's hung that way and looks like thats the way it was built. (locks and pins welded in) I should have taken a picture. I have the panel out in the garage if yall want to see it though.

She should go right in if she can get her head over. She stops with her feet about 2 feet probably. Her nose touches the gate. I'm just guessing but I think the gate was meant to divide cattle and to open it for horses.
