Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I kept bringing his bucket back and just wanted him to put his front feet in. Suddenly he was coming in! Kicked his bucket over. I'm telling Eddie "he's coming in! What do I do" He told me "I don't know, let him in I guess." He didn't stop til he was at the front and we tied him up and closed the middle gait.
Now we have him in but can't get him to straighten up. He's sideways like a slant. He pushed one of the windows out with us trying to turn him. So, well we left him there awhile.
Next, how do we get him out. Eddie "asked how are we supposed to do this?" I told him "I don't know but we have to untie him first and you have to go in and back him out but you can't open the door until he's untie" He said How am I gonna get in to untie him "Once again "I don't know" I reached in and untied him and Eddie opened the door and Okie turned around and went out head first. He didn't walk but kind of jumped out.
He more than did his job today but his owners really need some work:')
I think all that wash rack work preped him. We brought him in the exact same way.
Let him stand at whatever angle he wants to. There is no benefit in getting him to straighten up. He looks to be tied ~very~ short. I'd give him at least a foot of line. And he is tied on the correct side.... better to have them facing toward the center crown of the road.
And when it's time to come out, just walk in and untie him, and lead him out... front ways. He may jump out or step out, every horse has is own style. Just stay clear of his feet!
That is ~only~ in the circumstance if he were tied quite near the back door where he could step out. In this case, walk in and get him like he was in his stall... no biggie.
LOL. That sounds too simple. Leave it to Eddie and I to try to complicate things. I thought horses supposed to back out.
~smiles~ That's the benefit of trailers wide enough to turn around in!
It's hard for Bay to turn around in some slants, because he's big. But he can and does. Prefers that to backing out blind.
Those little feet looked twice as big as that beatiful Arab when he started coming in though:')
That looks like a nice, comfortable trailer in very good shape. He'll do well in it. I would take one just like it.
Well if you were closer I would share it with you:')
Did he step out easy? If you don't have mats in it yet, the floor can be a little slippy under foot.
He didn't leap but jumped down . He hurried. We weren't leading him out though.
What do you mean? You stood outside?
Yeah, outside holding the leadrope. I untied it thru the window and let it feed till Eddie who was standing outside by the edge got it. (red faced lol)
I'm back from the barrel race. Jenny got 3rd in the 4th division. Pretty good for Rock considering it's been so long since they did it.
Pictures came out pretty dark again, even tho I got as close as I could.
Hair can you lighten this up any.
