Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
We used to make the Fort Sill run about once a month. All prarie. I though all of OK that way:')
That's what it says:') Maybe they really don't mean "quicksand" but just a sand pit. I'll have to see.
In my experience, if they get spooked they'd run down the trail or turn around... They'll probably stay on their feet. The key is to stay with them ;~D
I've never seen one that acts so stupid as to seem unaware of how steep the bank is. And we have a lot of steep ground around here.
We have quicksand here along the Ark. River. I have some friends whose property backs up to the river. They ~use~ to ride the river bank till his horse got caught in some. I guess the horse after trying to get out for awhile just gave up and was sinking not even trying to get out. The guy finally a tree branch down under it's chest and kind of leverd her while his wife pulled on the reins. They got her out, but she was crusted with sand half way up her barrel.

How in the world do they turn around on a trail that narrow. There were places were there was rock wall right up against the high side of us. I didn't take any pictures because I wasn't letting go of the horse:)

You ever find out what happened to that one in Oregon?
The nervous part where there is an upcliff on one side and the down cliff on the other is that they hate the upside and ride way at the edge. Where we'd hug the wall, they like to be away from it. They don't fear falling down, they fear the cougar that lurks from above.
i will get mine on tommorrow, my sister is taking them with her to work to get them developed and i will have them around 4 tommorrow then i will work on getting them posted. you took enough pictures of me, you could have left some of them out i don't like the way i looked to much(ha, ha,)

Poor thing. I wonder if it was instinct. I've heard that being still and not fighting is your best chance to stay afloat. Don't know if it's true or not though.
Nope. Other than that both horse and rider will be fine with some recoup time. Horse prolly spooked and lept off the cliff ;~D
You looked fine. A real cowgirl :')
I'm sure I won't like the ones you took of me either:), but I want to make sure these people really know I was there riding:)
Becky
I enjoyed seeing all the pics! Look forward to yours too!
Well the reason I asked is because they just had that down the hill race, right? I was just wondering if someone might have been practicing.
What'd Bob think of our weekend?
Becky
No - I think it was an unintentional trip down the bank.
he like the pictures and was glad i had a good time. he however did not like the fact that i was sitting in my pjs in front of the rv. little does he know i fed and watered that way too.

I suddenly got very very tired:) I think I'm outta here. Tomorrow I have to ride Trash, go to Jenny's and hold her horses for the shoer. Tues, ride Trash, deliver Harley for his test ride. Mack talked to the lady and she said it would take more then a week. If the horse did everything I said (and I know he will now) the people will buy him. Tues afternoon Jenny is coming to ride, and Tues night I'm going to the barrel race.
Becky
LOL, No one else knew they were your PJ's:) at least not till you told them.
Becky
Up hills and down hills ok but I don't like heights. I get queasy above 3 stories or looking off the edge of the grand canyon.
