The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We're all waiting for someone to do something interesting and come back to tell about it!

I splurged on clothes today at the thrift store. I love shopping there because I got literally a whole new wardrobe today for $128. Nice stuff, nice enough to wear to work, my other stuff was just worn out, so I packed much of it to Goodwill.

Evening! Meant to include you in the above post where I talk about my unexciting day. My horses are outside munching hay in the shade and it's hot. Too hot to want to be too close to a large sweating animal!

I need some new clothes. I have some nice stuff but I gained some weight and they aren't comfortable so I don't wear them lately. I'm working my way back down. I should go buy some more until then I guess but I just hate to.

I rode (my barrel) today. Absolutely no pictures lol. The kids were outside swinging so I practiced stepping up and swinging my right leg over. Okie a lot more comfortable:')

You see about the trainer a dud?

If you were out here, I would recommend you to my trainer. She's fantastic. :-) But I'm sure that you'll find a trainer that will work for you.

Lot's happened since my last post.

That girl:) (Tami) brought me her horse late in the afternoon. I'll get pictures of him tomorrow. He is definityly more throughbredy:) As soon as she left, I loaded up my horse and went to the barrel race. Just got back. I've got some pictures, but I don't think they're going to be all that good. Kristy didn't place tonight. It's an indoor arena and Rowdy just hasn't learned to run indoors. Makes a difference.

I'm going to go load pictures now.

Howdy!
I've got some rainy weather coming my way, which means that I probably won't get to ride this week. And I was supposed to go on a motorcycle run tomorrow. Aww crud. No riding anything for me! Horse or Hog! :-p

What time is it where you are? Well at least something interesting has happened to someone! :-)
I had a wierd dram last night that involved horses. My trainer was explaining to me how she was going to let me have my pick of horses from now on, and she was about to say something about how that would affect my riding when the cats woke me up. :-)

It's 10:45 PM right now, why?

You ride motorcycles too? So do I. I have a Sportster. My husband has a Ultra Classic and a Goldwing.

My pictures didn't come out:(. It was dark in there, but my flash was going off but the pictures are all black, any suggestions???

I wish. I'm already scheduled for beginners horsemanship and trail riding at a school. It's several days and I train on my own horse. Just waiting for confirmation. I can repeat as often as I want and advance as I want and the price is about the same as one month of lessons for the horse. That and I'm learning on my own as I go along. (the school of experience :')

If yall are still up I'll catch you later. I have to go to the airport and pick up my husband now.

I could get it a little better with photoshop, can at least tell what's happening! If you have more I'll fix them best I can and post em, it'll work best if you could email me the originals. email them to HairOfTheDog@Freerepublic.com

You're just out of range of the flash, it will only light up out about 10 feet. All those flashbulbs you see going off in stadiums aren't really doing the photographers any good ;~D

OK. I thought that would be Kristy but it's not. It's a friend of hers. I'll e-mail them, but I don't think they're really worth the trouble. If you decide not to mess with them it's OK

I look forward to the new project horse pics too tomorrow.

I understand the horse not performing well in a strange environment. Every heard me tell of when my mustang Chico locked up and froze on me at his first show? It was inside, and while he was always nervous indoors (he was a wild horse till he was 3) I had worked him and warmed him up over all jumps in there when all the other horses were in there too. But when my turn came to jump and we went in there alone... the gate clanged shut behind us and he would NOT move. There's people watching, I was embarrassed, and there is only so much I could do. He was terrified to be in there alone. I had to dismount and lead him out.

I showed him only outdoors for about a year, then I brought him back and worked him there again, after more experience, he was fine.

If they are at least that good, I'll post them. If the originals are higher res, they may even come out better.

He ran a very pretty pattern, he just wasn't running all out. My son was there, and said that running towards a solid wall screws them up. She was 2 seconds off.

When I got home tonight, the project horse, whose name is Trash because Tami said he always finds trash to play with, must have thought she was coming back to get him. I could hear him out in the arena running and bucking and he was whinning real loud. I felt kind of bad that he wasn't going home. Tami said he is probably going to miss his pasture friend.
