The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah. I'll be glad when we pick up # 2. He says he's not bored (and doesn't act like it) but I hate him having to watch me ride.

I'm glad you didn't stay up to do it, because I went to bed:)

BTW, what do you draw those lines with? I was practicing zooming and cropping yesterday but couldn't figure the tool to draw lines. Is is a special program?

Finishing up my coffee, then I have to run to town:(. I need a few things from Walmart, and flyspray. I rode Sat. with out it and am not doing that again. Those little triangle flies are just horrible to get on the horses ears. And they really bite. When I get back I'm going to ride Harley and Rusty.

Have good rides! ecurbh starts his new job today, and I have to work this morning, so I'm just having a few last sips of coffee before starting to get ready to go.

Is his job a stay at home job, or does he have to go somewhere?

Tell him good luck:)

He has to go somewhere.... It's a tech support call center type job. He's not looking forward to it. He still has the 'at home' projects to finish up, so he'll be busy busy.

Well, I just got back from town, and am going to have to change my plans for the day. It's getting hotter then it was suppose to:(.

I've been think about my fencing/horse run situation and what I'm going to do if I land up with 4 horses. Right now I'm only set up for 2 safely:) and 1 not so safe run. I'm going to start working on that today.

The problem is the posts that the main gate latched too rotted out a year ago and broke off. It wasn't that big a deal then because I didn't keep a horse in that area. I'm going to need it now. That is where I've been keeping Rusty while Reba was here. Mack drove a T post for me for a temporary fix, but Rusty has put his head thru the gate and pushed so much that the T post is bent now, so it's not safe and at night I wake up worrying if he's pushed it all the way over yet and heading down the road. Now that Reba is gone I can put Rusty in one of the safer runs.

While in town today I bought a new post and cement. The hardest part and I am talking it is going to be hard is digging the hole to put it in. Where the old post was the cement that held it is still there and I don't think it's comeing out. So a new hole is called for:(. This hole is going to have to be pretty deep to keep the post sturdy, but we have the problem with lots and lots and lots of rock. It could take me a week to dig this hole:), but it's going to have to be done. So that is what I'm going to get started on today.
As hot as it's getting tho, I could be running for the house every 5 minutes or so tho. I'll take pictures of the progress I make.

Well, I had a post all done pictures and everything. I thought I posted it:), must be the heat.

Anyway, Mack and Charlie showed up while I was digging that hole. They finished it for me and even set the post in the cement. I've got all my new hot wire up which created 2 runs. Now I have 4 safe runs. Well 5 counting Rocky's. So I'm set. Just waiting on the cement to set up before I can put Rusty in there, probably won't use that pen unless I have 4 here.

Rats! That happened to me in the last day or two also, and it was a long complicated post about shoulders and humoruses and line drawings.

Try to post your pics again if you will! I just got home.... I hate going to town! Need to change clothes, cool off, water the new grass and get something to eat!

Yeah was one of those early morning/late evening days for me too, and I didn't even get all of my work done. I'm going to get screamed at by my boss tomorrow, I know it. I handled the office for two weeks while she was on vacation. You'd think that she'd have a little bit of appreciation. But no.
Oh, and I saw Jamie Lee Curtis today.

Time will harden you up:') Don't let anyone scream at you. If I'm wrong or erred I'll take my licks but I'll walk if cursed or yelled at. No job worth it. What's this about Jamie? :')

If you go straight up the crease between Okies belly and hip, his hip starts almost exactly in the middle of the white strip with the edge of the bone on the crease line.
