Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I don't think it is probably urgent.... or the farrier would have said so. I just have doubts that it will work in the long run.
Oh I know you weren't. Okie has to come first but I'm just thinking.
I thought he was sore today after trimming. He was high stepping in the pasture but then the stinker took off running across the field , chasing Skyler:')
Don't laugh ok, but which foot was that? Can you tell? Each one is a different foot .
Well, looking at his other pictures, his front feet are dark, so it's probably a back... and probably the right because of where your foot is. ;~D
Duh. lol. I wasn't thinking. Shoes on my mind. I knew it wasn't his front left because Eddie too it under the belly and it didn't show anything. Gonna go back and look:')
yep. right back. His hair, not mine :')
Darn Hair, this is bugging me now. If I wasn't worried about bothering the owner I would go back out there tonight:') I've been studying that picture and want to look at this area up close. Seems like I was focusing on the wrong thing being wrong. Are you talking about soft tissue higher up or below the peeled area? I guess I wasn't too concerned because this started with the loose shoes. You asked if he did anything to knock them off, I don't think so. He had been shoed twice before with no problems.
Sorry to make you fret. The farrier would have mentioned it if it were serious.
I was concerned only that those chips off the front of the hoof have peeled away most of the hoof wall that protects the soft tissues inside the foot. Maybe those aren't as deep as they look, but it looked like the whole thickness of the wall might have given way. Maybe it was deceiving.
Morning. Some people just worry about stuff. I guess Okie is my "stuff" :'). I should have just followed my instincts yesterday. Oh well...Reading my posts though I sound cheap and I'm not with him. I didn't like the big jump in price but I took them off because I could see they were tearing his feet up. The sides of his hooks looked worse then. I do buy what the horse needs and some stuff he doesn't :').
Understood Cindy.... Shoes shouldn't have torn his feet up. Talk to you later this afternoon.... one more work day.
Have fun:')
Silly question for yall:') The 13th I have to participate in a hat contest here. I wanted to do something horse related, maybe even using my helment. Yall have any ideas?
Off to the barn. talk to you all when I get back. Cindy, I'll try to think up an idea for ya. :-)
Have fun. I was going to do a makeup today but it's raining.
It's pouring here today too, which is ~really~ welcome. We could use a few days of it to really green up the pasture again and give a decent drink to all the trees. Unfortunately, I think today is ~it~.
I feel bad for the kids at the fair. They've been showing in rain the past couple days.
Ours was covered which was nice and all the exhibits inside. Just the rides and games outside. The last year, the last night tornados were touching down and the grounds were flooding. People running everywhere to find kids, including me (I had 4 out there). I retreived them all except my middle one. I finally found him by himself playing video games. I asked him later if he noticed a problem. He said he kind of wondered what was happening but was right in the middle of a game .:')
All the small animals show inside, and even the cattle I think, but the horse arena is outside. Poor guys.... Championship classes are tomorrow and it should be nice so...
Also tomorrow is the ladies drill team. That is always a riot, because they just aren't ever any good! Out of control chaos on horseback! Might go to that!
Sounds like fun. I miss that stuff living in the city. I'll be back on about 10. I have a lot of work to do and won't get it done FR surfing:')
Hey guys. I was looking at horses at an adoption ranch. I would love to do something like that:') I found one that sounded good but she was blind in one eye, which might be workable but fast. I don't think I need a fast, blind horse! Some sad cases. They tell you up front:'(
