Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Of course!
So... I have to go in and get it??? It's not like I let it drop out or anything. I just hold my hand under his mouth and he spits it out. What's an easier way for him?
It'd be really easy to demonstrate in person and hard to describe in writing. I am going to go try to take some pictures! OK? :~D
:') ok
Well, my picture site, Snapfish, is down right now for maintenance of some kind.
I took some pics, not sure if they show anything helpful but I'll post them later and see. The success is judged in the sound... if you can ~hear~ it clank you goofed! I'm not perfect and neither is Bay, but we try our best each time.
Got it. No clanks :') He's always so eager (and fast) to spit it out. I'll monitor and help him but he better not chomp me:')
Your fingers don't have to be involved ;~D
Well, I didn't go look at the horse. Strange situation, and a gut feeling saying don't go. The kid was/acted strange. Once he got there he sat for a minute thinking, then said I need to get gas. I said OK, he pulled up in front of the store rather then at the pumps....sat there a minute then drove over to the pumps. When he went in to pay, he was in there a long time and came out with some food. Put the food in the car and went to the phone without even looking over to were we were parked and waiting. I looked at my watch and it was 1:05. He got on the phone, kept his back to us for about 3 minutes. (Oh and by the way, he was kind of dressed in that baggy look, pants half down his backside not too clean, I try not to be judgemental about that stuff, but he gave a very bad impression about 20yrs old) Well, he finally glanced over at us and I made a gesture of Well come on, and he raised his finger in the just a minute motion (not the bad finger:) then turned back around. I waited 2 more minutes then left. He never saw us drive off. There was probably absolutly nothing going on, but I got a bad feeling, what was the phone call about????? I had Kristy and the baby with me. I didn't want another horse now anyway:)
I also talked to the vet. She said yes, the infection is cleared up, his thyroid is way low, she has seen worse, but his was not good. He is also anemic but that should clear up now that the chronic infection is gone. He doesn't appear to have ulcers. Well run blood work again in 30 days to check the dosage on the thyroid and to make sure the anemia is clearing up. After then just a thyroid panel evey 6 months, because alot of times with help the thyroid will eventually come back fully on it's own, so the meds will be able to be stopped.

How could you see his bit anyway? I went back and looked couldn't :')
Wow.... All I can say about the kid is act on your instincts.... So you just left? Will you run into him again? I don't remember how you found out about the horse in the first place.
Good info to know about the Thyroid condition. I'm not familiar with it, keep me posted on what you learn.
I could see that it was a shank bit of some kind rather than a straight snaffle ;~D
He was a friend of an employee of a friend:). He said he lived in Bixby when I talked to him on the phone. I doubt I'd run into him again. Don't care if I do really. But yeah, we just drove off. He never noticed. I'd like to have been a fly on the wall to see his expression when he turned around and we were gone:) Hopefully he will learn to be a little less rude.

Did you see my tomato post over in the HH? Pretty exciting when the first one turns red!
The big tomatoes are makin' progress, but still green.
I'll have to show you a picture of my oranges (if any left:')
Your tomatoes look great:)
Well, that boy with the $600 horse called today. It was as strange a call as the meeting was. He said he was sorry for the way things worked out, but he has been out of town for 2 years and didn't really know where the horse was:)....and was calling his dad because he did not want to get out there and look like a fool. He said he would bring the horse to me because he did not want to inconvience me again. I said I'd think about it and hung up.
I'm planning on being on a horse tomorrow morning by 7:30. It's gotten hot here again. Very humid. I've got 5 days left with Reba. My plan is to concentrate on her in the morning, ride/haul Harley in the evenings. Then start Rusty back next week. I want to give him a week on his meds. He was sweating real good today, pretty much as much as the other horses were.

I've just gotta ask - what kind of camera? Those are nice pictures for close ups on tomatoes.
We spent a bigger chunk of the day than we wanted just trying to get the mower running.... but we did! Was glad to get the lawn mowed. Didn't ride, again.... spent the day getting as caught up on the life chores as I could!
Esther Ruth, my camera is a Nikon COOLPIX 775
I like it, it takes high enough res pics for my needs... my wish list would be a better zoom, and an instant shutter so you could capture action better... but those complaints I would have about just about all the digicams.
Morning yall. The thread getting buried in my comments so bump time. The babysitter happily agreed to come in later and stay til dusk. I have my riding clothes in the car and headed to the stables when I get off work :')
'ello. Have a good ride. I'm at work as well, and in my
mid-afternoon sleepy-cause-I-just-ate-lunch mode...
This is interesting. Anyone else having this problem:
