The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That's so great! That chalks up to a great "You know you're a horse person when" moment.

That looks so pretty. I love that second picture. I wish we had trees like that:) I've only rode one time bareback, years ago, when I was still a very shakey rider and felt so wobblely that I got right off and have never tried again.

Good luck at the job today. Hope you can work out the details the way you want too.

Well we found enough last minute subs to play that we had 2 extra's. No one told us that one of the ladies had found her own sub, her high school daughters boyfriend......I was really surprised at how much he seemed to enjoy playing with a bunch of mostly older ladies.

My son's mother in law, and I landed just hanging around visiting and taking care of JP, our mutual grandson:), who was here as Mack and my son decided to hang out here too out in the shop working on the work truck.

Glad you got enough together for a game then!

I am only good bareback for nice quiet walking! And even then, Bay was all slippery because he was just bathed and fly sprayed.

I am gonna go to this job today.... wish me luck.

Have fun. You have talent so luck optional, but "good luck":') The owner flew in from Calif today and having a party tomorrow so the lake trip off so I'll probably be spending a lot of time at the stables this weekend. I am supposed to have a trainer coming in. I hope she wasn't with the "ladies" yesterday:')

Kind of off Topic question(some horses though) but can yall help me with something? I don't watch much TV or movies but I watched a movie last night. I came in about half way I guess and they never mentioned the name. It's on again and I would like to rent it. It's with Sally Fields, during the depression. She's a widow , and a blind man and a homeless black man help her save her farm. Yall seen it or know the name?

I had fun :-) And nope, I don't have any talent, just lots and lots of practice.
I had a really good ride, and I'm feeling it now. She gave me a mouted lesson, to demonstrate what she wanted me to do, which I found extremely helpful. She says that I've come along very quickly. Made me feel pretty good. I like the way that she teaches, because she explains the theory, and I like theory because it helps me to apply technique later. However, Banjo messed up my big toe pretty badly. He stepped on me then pivoted. :-/ And there's a renegade goat on the property that gave me a hard time. :-)

Ouch. I haven't gotten stepped on yet. He got the back of my heel one day and pulled my shoe off when I was turning him in his stall once. Glad you are doing so good with your riding

Yeah I'm watching it backwards. I've seen up to when she is blackmailed by the "loan officer"to take his BIL. I kept waiting today but all I heard was "now back to your movie" I think the best part is when they are all taking the Last Supper and only we know what they were doing before:') They weren't horses though were they? Today they were braying but the biggest donkies I had ever seen.

I rode today too. I practiced in the round pen walking with my hands on my legs. I did good . I was able to ride and turn easy. Lot's of new sand and he needs a trim and tripping a little while troting during lunging today so I didn't want to try that there. We went out on the grass. I made myself keep the reins low but just couldn't turn loose of them while trotting yet but I'm working on it. My right leg good and I felt my balance better. Funny thing is that I did so much leg work that when I got off my legs were shaking:')

Good! That means that you did it right! My tainer made me ride most of my lesson without stirrups, so I (literally) feel your pain! ;-) Just make sure that you aren't gripping with your knees!

No?. I keep my heels down but do squeeze his sides with my legs to move, go faster and when he starts to stop or areas where I know he is going to drag.
