The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL...I've oftern told him I'd like to cut a door into those rooms from the outside, and use them as stalls. I'd never have to go out at night to feed again. Just go down the hall, provided I only had two horses:) They'd be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Grazing and cooling, I bet he wishes I would just stand there all day and do this:

The dogs did not appreciate it as much:

Yeah he really has more personality then any horse I have ever seen. It's breaking my heart that he has so many problems that I just can't deal with.

If it looks like something he wont' ever get over, I'll send him to you where the temps are better. The vet said that would be best for him to go north:).I'd reserve rights to come visit him and to demand a picture everyday:). He'd probably be alot happier camper up there. sigh.

Those are some great pictures! Oh! I got a digital camera today. Woohoo. So you can expect to see more pictures in the near to distant future. :-)
It was an interesting ride, though. My friend and I got run off the highway by a tractor trailer. We're fine, not a scratch, but we were both quite scared. We caught the son of a gun's license plate and truck number after he came into the parking lot behind us. (It was a freak thing) Note: If you're going to be an insane truck driver, do not wear recognizable bright orange t-shirts.

Almost. But we both chickened out, beacuse there was no one around the loading docks, and two slight females against one hulking big guy... Well, let's just say that we wouldn't have the upper hand if it came to more than words. The important part is that we weren't hurt. :-)
We had more fun plotting revenge then actually taking it.
But if I had had a gun I would have shot out his tires...

:-)

Well, in the long run, perhaps it is better that you didn't actually shoot his tires out.

We are watching a neat show on History Channel: Tactical to Practical, about horses in combat, historical battles, police work, patrols, etc.

Of course. :-)
Hmm.. I'll take a look at the History Channel. Don't know if that'll be on. It's about 11:00 here.

He really likes trail riding. The horse he is on is Dot, out of our mare and stud. She is 4. She is actually my daughters horse, but she shares:)

Blake got flung off a horse last night at a play day going around the 3rd barrel. It was his other grandparents horse that he rides. Wasn't really the horses fault, from what I understand Blake lost his stirrups and then his balance. We were just glad he didn't seem hesitant at all to get back on
