The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The score so far is 2 squirrels and I stopped counting at 10 chipmunks.

I wouldn't mind Gidget getting this "ground mouse", but I don't want her catching our "tree mouse" because we like him. ;~D

Thanks! There will be pictures, if the weather holds. It's a three minute drive, or a twenty minute walk. Depends on how much exercise I want to get that day.
I wish that I had my own horse again. It's nice not to have to fork over money every time you get on. Of course you fork over money in many many other ways, but that's ok. :-)

I used to have a cat that would lay on the porch rail and when a bird would fly out of the tree he would leap up and catch it in mid air. He never seemed to mind the free fall down and held on to his catch.

My cat is so old and blind and fat that I'd think he wouldn't catch birds any more. He tries to hang out and watch the bird feeder though.

Both cat and dog are allowed to be mousers, but I don't like them catchin' birds!

Naw.... she doesn't do anything, just keeping herself occupied. As 'bad' as we say that pony is, she never bites, and never has kicked. She's just a flibberty jibbet. Bay can just stand there with that faraway look and go to sleep. Pony needs constant amusement.

They can be sneaky with that going to sleep trick though. I was grooming Okie on black Tuesday and he kept getting very heavy eyed so I skipped lounging him. He was just conserving his energy for mounting time :') He woke up real good!

It means we go back to our routine. He gets tied up til he's all nice and humble and then gets worked in the round pen til he's tired and follows cues, and that he stands perfectly still for me (if it takes all day) to get on and we RIDE!
