Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

No, I need to get more. They were taken with a disposable and distant. We just got a digital. I wasn't "allowed" out of the car last night.
He is wide. The pics don't really show it. That was one of the first things the owner said when she saw him. "You said you wanted a wide horse".

Nice big space! Where does he fall in the pecking order? Has he gotten new marks on him or is he runnin' everyone around there?
This road oblong. The hay gone now and we ride on the grass. I had a hard x getting him to go past the trees and trailors but he does ok now.
W side of road. Canal behind trees on left. DREADED BIRDS. BOOGIES. We are working on this.
S side in background. (where I got caught in T storm) used to tie him to this tree. He was all around and in it. Stopped when he began to like it :')
You are looking at the top 3 dogs. Different opinions but he gets the most votes, Depending on what's going on. (space, food, or women) You can see he backs the white one off here but he can hold his own against Okie too. Sometimes I find spots of blood (?) but no source on okie. occasionally he gets a raw area but not often. He really took his licks at first though.

Yeah. I usually don't like flashy and prefer to blend in but it's not easy with a paint and a purple saddle:') He has 5 different colors in his mane. He loves to be groomed and I like making him shine. He lets me pretty much do what I want without fussing, except touching his inner left ear. He stands still now but doesn't like it. He could care less about the right. Go figure.
No.... blending in is not going to be possible! But at least you don't look like a deer in the woods.
Maybe a cow huh? :') There was a picture somewhere where a rider had wrote HORSE in big letters on the animals side during hunting season.

I think Bay could look like a deer to a bad hunter anyhow.... So I try to wear as much orange as I can during season!
Our lake lot is near deer hunting property. Most ok but I see some of these yahoos and they are scary. We laugh caz the real hunters just dress like hunters. The wannabes go to walmarts all decked out:')

Well, I guess, like the spotted cats, they have less of an outline at a distance!
