The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread

Posted on 04/26/2004 12:06:41 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We'll be standing on the dock at low tide with people gathered around on the sand.

No horse access. They'd be allowed, just not easy to get them there. ;~D

Funny thing happened again today. I don't know if it was good or not but it was funny. I turned my horse loose in the round pen and went to get the lunge line. He started walking, then trotting and then changing directions. I just watched him. He told himself to start so I figured he could tell himself to stop. After he did his routine he turned center and whoad. :')

With you standing in the middle or were you out?

He may have done loose round pen work... it's a pretty popular training method!

No, I was standing outside the gait. I had hung my rope there. I walked back in though and he kept going. Walk, trot, walk, turn. The routine we usually follow. When he stopped I hooked him up and lunged him again with the rope. He didn't seem to mind. He was out of the pasture and a happy camper. Pasturing seems to work better than tieing. He gets um both though:') He's doing better. One of the boarders told be he screamed like a "banshee" the first two days he was out there, when I was out of town. Today there wasn't neighing back and forth of the ones that were stalled next to him. Things dicy for awhile when we would go by the barn.

Hey, yall. Been busy just got caught up.

You will like your shoes for the wedding, but beware if anyones finds out you're waring them they will take all kinds of pics of them.

My mom made bullitins for my wedding and put in there that I had on tennis shoes and we've got about a dozen pics of my feet. I was the only one whose feet didb't hurt by the end of the day.:)

I hung out with your daddy all day:).
And last night this thread was hoping so I went to bed late. Tonight it is dead and I'm still going to bed late.

I did forget to tell you, that Rocky did pretty good Wed. with no shoes. His feet actually chipped less then Rusty's. Heather said he was pretty gimpy on gravel, but they were that even with shoes.

Cindy sleeps with me when I'm by myself. I usually fall asleep on the couch for some reason with her on the floor beside me.

Got them locked.

Do you think Charlie and Kristy would hear me scream?

No, they are outside. The last time we let Jeb in I got covered with flee bites, so we need to give them a bath first.

I think Jeb would bark, he barks at stuff all the time, kinda like Josey.

Well let him bark, that should keep the ax murderers away:)

I'm going to sign off, I can't keep my eyes open. Kristy is bringing JP early because she is going to go work cattle tomorrow. She has to be there at 8.

If I don't talk to you before, I'll see you tomorrow night:)
