Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. We may not ~always~ have a lot of activity, but when we do, it will be fun. I will put a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I will also develop a ping list for horse threads that are of interest. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
I am hoping this thread will be a fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
20 for trimming and 30 for shoeing here.
The shoer I had before this guy only charged me $30 because I did do it every 6wks and always had at least 2 horses to do. And my horses were very easy, stood good and had no special foot problem. He was an excellent shoer but the last time he shoed he did a very bad job on Rusty and I knew they wouldn't stay on. and they didn't. He came once and put the lost one back on after about 3 days, and then he lost another one (and that normally never happened). When I called for the second one he never called back and never came. I tried to get hold of him about 4 times. Gave up and found someone else. I think the guy had just gotten burned out. He was starting his own fencing business but I thought he was going to keep shoeing, guess not. He shoed for me for 7 years. I was sorry to loose him.

I'd be sorry to lose mine. Everyone hates their farrier except me! I think he is giving me a break on trimming because Bays pads are so expensive. He used to charge $15 to trim her, and it has become $10. I have never lost a shoe on Bay.
I'm at 8 week intervals and doing fine, I sometimes shorten the interval in summer when the grass is rich (cuz they grow faster) and I am riding more. Mine is coming Friday, and we'll see. They've been on nothing but grass (and only enough grain to mix Bay's pills in) for a couple weeks. We'll see what he thinks when he can take a look.
Looks big enough to saddle up and take for a ride! ;o)
Hi Mal:')
Hey Cindy!
Freepmail ping.
Returned lol
Well I haven't got the shoes off yet...LOL...can't get the tops clip/filed off. I have an aquaintance who has been to farrier college and has all the tools but doesn't shoe except his own. I left him a message to call me when he could, didn't tell him why:). He gets off work at 3. Hopefully he can come pull these shoes off and shoe me how to file them. When I went to feed at 3 I noticed Harley has lost another, so he is down to two.

Whoo Hoo!!
The aquaintance I talked about just called and said he would come pull the shoes off in a little bit. So I will be good to go tomorrow:)
Becky
So did you get to ride today, how'd it go?
Just waiting on the guywho is oing to pull the shoes:) I'm excited about it.
Becky
You get the shoes off? I sold my trailor to the farrier. Now I really have to find another one :')
Where is everyone? :')
Yep, shoes off.
Becky
yeah :')
Hey, we've got lightning bugs:') First I have seen this year.
That spider was huge. Better not let Suiey play with that one, it might carry HER off.LOL BTW, how is she today.
Now that's a MACK DADDY pose.:)
Susie is fine this morning. She seemed pretty down for awhile, curled up at the end of the bed. Then around 3:00 she was suddenly waking me up licking me in the face, then pestered the cat a bit, then under the covers, back to normal. Guess she just needed to pout a bit. LOL.
Great picture:)

Well my neighbor was a no-show last night, as I expected. I did talk to her and she says they're coming tonight:).
I asked her if this girl had rode this horse before and she said yes and that she did very good. Just wants to get somewhere where she can go around the barrels.
