Agree on Batman. In addition to those archetypes I'd say he's also got a vampiric element mixed in--I believe Bob Kane was influenced by a 1920s film called "The Bat" or something like that. Plus more recently he's acquired a samurai/ninja aspect.

That's just style, IMHO. When you boil the character down to his basics, all of his abilities derive from his training; and his entire reason for training is to gain revenge against criminals. Of course, the details make the character; that's why you can have a Batman and a Punisher. They are examples of the same archetypes, but the differences in characterization and style are what can make them both interesting to read.
