Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Hmm, how does she react to the Linux penguin?

I'm down here just through Thursday.
What a stoopid state this is. I simply detest everything about it except the weather. and... the governor is kinda entertaining.

One of the reasons I prefer Solaris...
I had a SunOS server once that ran continuously for 240+ days with no downtime... until a power outage took it down.

That's the downside of FreeWare... it doesn't make any money.
To: Wneighbor
They know that I wouldn't. That part has already been made crystal clear.
Heck... this "headquarters" has been looking like a ghost town for the last couple of years. About 20-30% of the staff that was here has moved outta state to another office. Nobody *wants* to live here. The only ones still here are the ones that are trapped because they can't afford to sell the house they bought at ridiculously high prices.
There are people here that owe more on their house than they can sell it for. There's another impending bubble burst that is just inevitable. [sigh] That's what happens when you pay almost a million dollars for a three bedroom rambler on a cul-de-sac in a crummy neighborhood. You don't have to be Donald Trump to know a bad deal when you see one.

You don't have to be Donald Trump to know a bad deal when you see one.Nope. But, it's a shame more people don't have more foresight than that.
Glad you don't live there too... you are in a good place. And you can stand these little trips down on occasion if you try! :-) After all, you've still got all of us to talk to - even in the midst of all that is there.

[ducking in advance] But I have windows servers that have been up for more than a year, too... :-)
OK... I'll come clean... there's a place for all these things. I'm using linux boxes as my external internet SMTP servers. I don't like hanging exchange boxes on the net. We're using Sun and Silicon Graphics boxes for some high end math modeling stuff... and we're playing around with a couple of linux-based Beowulf clusters for some *truly* extreme computational YOWZA. Those guys are playing with some really groovy power tools.
Just today, as it would happen... I found out that the latest attempt at (I think) an 8-way beowulf cluster of merely some group of old Pentium 4 desktops... completely blew the doors off of our main big iron SGI server in some benchmarking models, by, like, 200%... yikers.
Nifty stuff, that...
