Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

LOL... are you trying to talk yourself outta a hot tub now? Put it someplace *other* than the beach! Forget the yurt. At least until after you have your dream boat.

No kidding!

I am astounded that these people are going on and on about this mess! They aren't even sane I think!

There's an interesting parallel to the 9-11 hearing today, in that.

For some reason there is an expectation on the part of the general population that there is perfect information to be had, and if it is missing then there is some person that must be held responsible, and crucified, if still employed.

What you said, and also (sub-point to your first point) they let Russia in. FDR had the dumb idea that world peace could be maintained through a coalition led by the US and Russia. To this dumb idea the Commies in the Truman State Department added the even dumber idea that the way to avoid another war was to turn US nuclear technology over to UN control for equal sharing with Russia and other countries. The whole recent debate over Iraq's acquisition of WMD was essentially a replay of a debate over sharing nuclear technology with Russia that was carried out between 1945 and 1947 or so, as meanwhile Russia was occupying Iran and supporting the Arabs against the emerging nation of Israel. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Not at all... I still want a hot tub, but it's gonna be somewhere up under the deck or something. Not *on* the beach.

I guess I'm even a little surprised (though maybe I shouldn't be) because none of these local talking heads on the news have bothered to do a comparison between these two incidents. A little bit of reasoning and acknowledgement that storms are acts of nature and not totally predictable would be a nice thing to add to this controversy.

How can people *honestly* expect some official to just *know* which storm is going to damage and which one isn't? Not reasonable.

hmmm... did it suddenly become obvious I'm married to a black woman?

Astute deduction there.

You are right. For a city that prides itself on it's tornado destructions it seems the people would have at least learned that they will never be predictable.

Well, that sounds much more sensible to me. YOU are the one who said "on the beach" earlier this week. :-)

If I said "on the beach" then it would have been in the context of being "not in downtown Seattle" or some such thing. I didn't know I had to be precise to the exact few feet of the installation location. :-)

I'll be here painting on Sunday.
Critique is Wednesday and Friday.

I'm almost finished the painting with the storm, etc.

Truthfully, I lost control of that painting for awhile! But I'm liking it pretty well now, even though it went in an unexpected direction.

Just finished painting in the fighter jets (2). I made 'em kind of alien looking, dartlike, nothing recognizable, to try to enhance the evil aspect that those things always emanate.

I like that aspect of fighters when they are ours. But I wanted them strange and awesome looking, to help with the general feeling of dread.

Yes--I think that's a symptom of people being conditioned to think the government is some omniscient entity that can solve anything. From my perspective it's similar to how advocates of government health care seem to blame the government for disease and think giving everyone free health care would magically eliminate all diseases--as if the government has control over bacteria and viruses and whether or not people choose to eat right and exercise! Drives me nuts.
