Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner we may meet...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yep. Agreed. Was a dumb innovation. Caving to some kinda of "worrier" faction about the safety of speeds just caused more crashes than before.

Juniors got it! for now at least. Lookin' good!

Once the race is done, could you find the name of the GI that needs a HH knife?

Also, I'm checking in to whether it's practical to ship coconut oil overseas. If it can be done, I can get a gallon of it for $20. That would sure make Jerry's popcorn machine, and "his" troops, happy.

Restrictor plates restrict the air flowing into the carbuerator, cut the horsepower with the result that everyone is going pretty much the same speed....which bunches up the field. So one little wiggle and The Big One happens.

What's wrong with the plates?

1. It ain't racing with restrictor plates. Part of the challenge of the whole sport is removed. You remove a measure of the competition.

2. With the power limited on the carberators there isn't enough suddem increase in acceleration there to gas it and get out of potential crash situations. There is a loss of control of the car associated with that. Ever try to pass quickly in a 4 banger?

Another problem with restrictor plates is that they don't make very good spam for snaigging Preciouses, either :)

Do you have the race on? You can see the big pack that OT is talking about. If the guys are spread out around the track when one gets loose, they aren't likely to take out a dozen.

Did you watch the race yesterday? That last crash that eliminated about 9 cars from the race prolly wouldn't have happened if they hadn't all been in the same pack.

Another example of some "do-gooder" idea which in reality causes more crashes and injuries that it was intended to eliminate. Same principal as gun control.

I don't have it on, but what you say makes sense--I can visualize that.

So, you ever been driving and somebody on the road just did something really stupid and to get away from it you just hit the gas to get away? Knowing that you don't have that power to gas it and go you could get smashed isn't a comfortable feeling either.

When I lived in the city it was like that just about every time you got on the road! :) Thankfully people around here drive a little saner--usually.

Knowing that you don't have that power to gas it and go you could get smashed isn't a comfortable feeling either.

That would make me nervous, yes. Mostly I asked because I was trying to spam, unsuccessfully :)

That's like spamming in the Hobbit Hole and asking what lembas are. You will get discussion whether you want it or not.

It still escapes me why all the dwarves and men think they can tell the lady elf here what lembas are!
