Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner we may meet...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Sank when the pontoons filled with water.
They were pressure spraying the road surface for some reason, and rather than washing all that oily water runoff into the lake, they actually drilled holes into the sealed pontoon floats for the bridge to let the water run into. Then they'd pump the water back out and take it somewhere to dump it.
Trouble came when during a long holiday weekend, a big storm came and filled the pontoons up too much and a couple whole sections sank.

Hey a guy named Piotr Somethinorother from your company was just on "Modern Marvels" on the History Channel.... Talking about when the Seattle floating bridge sank. That would be Piotr Moncarz. He's a neat guy. Very straight-up sort of fellow. He's very good. Polish, with more degrees and doctorates than will fit on his "iloveme" wall. English is definitely a second language, but he gets us a lot of business from the [former] iron curtain countries.
Frankly, it's surprising that the Great And Terrible OZ (GATOZ) actually allowed somebody other that HIS WORSHIP to get any face time on TV. Kindof encouraging, really.

There's supposed to be an episode of "Mythbusters" that features the GATOZ, but I haven't seen it yet. Odds are good that it has something to do with guns. The GATOZ is the only guy in California, the bay area no less, that can get away with having a fully functional B.A.R. in his office. Ordinarily, I would have a lot of respect for such a thing... except for the part where he's a total nutball.
There was also an episode of "Tactical to Practical" that was filmed out at our Phoenix office, but I have yet to find out what the subject matter was. Probably robots, but I haven't heard yet.

Just like Michigan.

He has a gun safe in his office that would make your eyes water. He collects things. Most of his collections are displayed around the office, and all of them are stuff that the Smithsonian would drool over.
Microscopes. Glass-cased ship models*. Cameras. Fountain pens. And of course... guns.
*there's a glass cased model of the Titanic in the boardroom that is his, and is rumored to be worth more than six figs.
