More Tom Clancy Movies Coming!
JoBlo's Movie Emporium ^ | April 2, 2004 | Jim Law

Posted on 04/03/2004 1:23:26 PM PST by Long Cut

Two more Tom Clancy novels will find their way to the big screen with the help of Paramount Pictures. Stuart Beattie, fresh off the false rumors of him writing the next Indiana Jones film, will write an adaptation of WITHOUT REMORSE and John Enbom will take a stab at RAINBOW SIX. Both novels are based around CIA agent John Clark, the darker character Clancy invented as a break from his lovable hero, Jack Ryan, who was the focus in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, PATRIOT GAMES, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, and THE SUM OF ALL FEARS. The John Clark character actually appeared in both DANGER (played by Willem Dafoe) and SUM (Liev Schreiber).

REMORSE centers on an ex-Navy SEAL who infiltrates a gang responsible for killing a woman he loved and then taking on a new name and life as John Clark. RAINBOW has Clark joining with several colleagues to leave the CIA and create an England-based multinational organization designed to battle terrorism. Yet another Clancy story, RED RABBIT, is also in Hollywood's future.

Hollywood will probably butcher these like it did The Sum Of All Fears.

Not that Clancy cares. He gave up fighting the Hollywoodheads a long time ago and just sits back and cashes their checks, now.

It figures they'd pick the most simplistic stories to make into movies.

Rainbow Six will probably get torn to shreds...the villains in it are radical environMENTALists.

I gave up on CLancy years ago. Why read him when you've got Travis McGee and Jeff Head?

Can't use islamofascists, so lets use a PC hate group - neonazis!

Yeah, we're going to buy that.

His books are much better than the movies, but the movies are good.

Interestingto see that they decided to make Red Rabbit. While I didn't think it was a great book, the main character does what he does because of his religious faith.

Don't forget John Ross. I'd like to see someone have the stones to make Unintended Consequences into a movie.

That change about drove me nuts. So did them changing Ryan into a young, unmarried man for that female audience.

I'd buy a ticket. So would a lot of other people I know.

Funny thing is, if Hollywood actually paid attention to those of us in "middle America" and our attitudes, they'd make so much more money.

How's this? Unintended Consequences, starring Tom Selleck and directed by Mel Gibson. Special appearance by Charlton Heston.

Michael Moore would have a coronary!

I put the Vince Foster paragraphs from UC onto Usenet and got a come-to-Jesus from John Ross himself. LOL

It was through email via the Whitewater news group. He was nice enough, but very irritated.

D'OH!

On his website he has a bunch of columns and other stuff he's written. He also talks, in his FAQ, about a movie. I doubt we'll ever see one, myself. There's no way Hollywood would make it.

A [web]log, blog, is akin to a journal to which additions are made easily and often, as opposed to a website which devolves into a set piece that requires quite a bit of work to keep current.
