There's alot to be said for a sheath knife (like: no moving parts), though I think some military commands frown on them. Not sure why, but I once tried to carry my sheath knife on duty and was "asked" to switch it out for a folder. I never did understand why.

Ramius; true enough, carries over to a lot of fields, same when I was a Forest Ranger and double the same when I was in the Police Reserves, still you'd think a sheath knife with a 3 inch blade would get a pass from the brass when there are unpleasant people about.
