To: Professional Engineer
Heh...been there, done that. We had someone who had had some work done in her office and had put plastic sheeting over her monitor to keep dust out of the monitor. It was left on overnight and sometime the following day finally got SO hot that the monitor caught on fire...or at least did a heck of a lot of smoking.

Then we had to explain to her that her files aren't actually in the monitor. That took awhile, too.

Back aound 1989 I was taking a DBase III class. The instructor did consulting for his primary job. He told the story of a company that was losing all their data every night!

One day he went to the site and observed the operation all day long. No problems arose. At the end of the day, the secretary shut down and...

His observation was, "I have good news and bad news. The good news is, I know what your problem is. The bad news is, you're going to have to reenter all your data again tomorrow".

at the end of the day, she took the floppy out of the drive and stuck it to the steel filing cabinet using a large magnet.
