-Rod reportedly traded to Yanks Print story AIM story Email story FOXSports.com Posted: 2 minutes ago The Yankees and Rangers have an agreement in principle on a monster trade that will send shortstop Alex Rodriguez to New York in exchange for Alfonso Soriano, Newsday is reporting.
No announcement is expected Saturday since there are still a few minor details to work out, but both sides are confident those won't hold up the deal. Rodriguez, the AL MVP, would be moved from shortstop to third base by New York, seeking to fill the hole created when Aaron Boone hurt a knee last month in a pickup basketball game, an injury that will require surgery. Derek Jeter, the Yankees' captain, would remain at shortstop.
The Yankees are expected to send a minor-league pitcher along with Soriano to Texas to complete the deal.

NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez will be playing third base for the Yankees this season, alongside shortstop Derek Jeter, if Newsday is to be believed.
Arod at 3rd?

Before anyone gives you crap- you didn't post this to breaking. You posted it to chat/sports.
I moved it here. Any abuse should come my way.
The sports fan in me knows how big a story this is.
To: YankeeMagic
That would be stupid. ARod is twice the defensive player that Jeter is. I can see it for political reasons, but Jeter should immediately defer to ARod.
Who plays second now? Not that it really matters. What an infield.

I'll second that -- in fact, this probably means that everybody in baseball is now playing for second best ... just the way George likes it.

Interesting. Texas has a well-earned reputation for giving away the store in trades, and this one immensely strengthens a division rival while giving them none of the pitching help they so desperately need. At least Texas (apparently) dumps A-Rod's league-leading salary.
Summary: The Strangers get yet another wedgie from the Yanks, this time off the field. A-Rod is a good fit for the Yanks and Soriano is a beast, but this is gold-plating of the deck chairs on the Texas Rangers Titanic.

Saw a report on ESPN.com that these discussion went into the night last night - I certainly didn't expect it to break this soon (if it is so).

The Yankees may end up giving the Phils trouble if they can get by the Red Sox again.
