Mel is backing off the the end of the picture that implies/says the Jews killed Christ. And they did. Actually if you are going to be that pickey the Romans killed Jesus. But it makes no difference who physically drove the nail. We all killed Jesus with our sin. Mel is not backing off anything. That is the heart of the Christian faith. Christ died to redeem humans from their sin. White, black, jew, arab etc...
Jesus Christ did not carry his cross. He was so beaten that he couldn't. A man named Aremaes or something like that got picked to carry it.
Matthew, Mark, and Luke tell of a man carrying Jesus's cross. John says that Jesus carries his own cross. The common thought is that Jesus carried it as far as he could and then this man was required to do so.

Thank God I didn't write the book.
1Th 2:14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they [have] of the Jews:
1Th 2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known [it], they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (princes here refers to higher ranking devil spirits)
In the physical realm God puts the blame on the Jews for killing Christ. In the spirtual realm He blames some devil spirits.
The cross of Jesus Christ is talked about all through the NT. The cross of Jesus Christ was that he could not sin or mankind was doomed forever. He was tempted in all things and did not sin. God knew His Son could do it.
Nowhere have I seen in the Scriptures that God places the blame on mankind for killing Christ. It was Adam that put us into a sinful nature that wasn't anybodies fault but his. If you can tell me where Scripturally God does blame us I would like to see it.
