It's about these two Songwriters, Doc and Blackie, played by Willie and Kris Kristofferson. Doc gets into a lousy contract with a Yankee promoter and has to get even. I think you might have to be from Texas to love this movie. Added to that I spent *way* too much time hanging out in the music scene down in Austin.... too much is too true.
There are several concert scenes in the movie. They called in lots of people in Austin to go in one Saturday to be the audience. I was there. That was a pretty fun time.
Opening monologue is spoken by Kris and goes like this:
Docs got him a real healthy imagination which cost him a couple of wives and most of our money before leading him to the stunning conclusion that songwriting was making somebody a whole lot of bucks, since it obviously wasnt us, it had to be them. He immediately quit the road forever to be a mogul , leaving it me and the boys out here to be the keepers of the flame. Docs ace in the hole in this world full of wheelers and whackos and dealers and old obligations and too little time was a burning commitment to living by his wits without stoopin to work. So far hes semi succeeded, thanks to innocence, audacity and a flat refusal to let himself to let himself be outgangstered by some fat guy in a suit. You see in the music business just like in real life its a day to daily war between the sorry and the soulful and no rule says the righteous gotta win, but Im puttin my money on a conman gypsy bad ass true blue legendary bandit hero. And when its all over they can say he did it for the love, but he was not above the money.
